Chuck South is getting things underway. The co-Big South Conference Champs are progressing under head coach Jay Mills. Mills has an interesting approach as noted in the schedule thread. Hasn't quite scheduled the toughest schedule, but his team is improving record-wise and developing confidence. This confidence translated to a big win over rival Coastal Carolina and getting that Big South title...co-title...

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern’s football program, riding high after last season’s 7-4 record and share of the Big South Conference championship, opened spring football practice on Monday afternoon.

Head coach Jay Mills, beginning his fourth season at the school, welcomed 86 players, including 16 returning starters, to the start of drills. The Buccaneers will work a few days per week for the next four weeks, concluding with the annual Blue-Gold scrimmage in the stadium on April 8.

Expectations will be higher than ever as the Buccaneers seek to continue the progress made over the previous three seasons. CSU finished 1-11 in Mills’ first season, improving to 5-5 in 2004 and 7-4 last season.

The Buccaneers closed out last season with five consecutive wins, including a double overtime 34-27 win over Coastal Carolina in the regular season finale to claim a share of their first-ever football championship.
