Wow. Were the curse words really needed there? "Yankee piece of..." What is really funny is that if you went to Britain, they would call you a yank.
I was called yank a couple of times over the last few weeks while in Ireland and was proud of it, considering the context.

Who's kidding whom? Both Boone, NC and Statesboro, Ga, while having great FCS programs in their environs, are cultural and entertainment wastelands....the gun goes off after the 4th quarter and you're in either Boone, NC or Statesboro, Ga.
I don't know about Stinkboro, but Boone is one of the most fun towns out there, one of only 2 true college towns in NC. We have all the comforts of home of course along with an incredibly beautiful campus. The down town area has a ton of college bars, cool shops and restaurants and is right next to campus. If you walk down king street you will hear string bands playing. No culture? What a joke. I've never been to a school where the regional heritage is so strong with a school.

Well, according to the American Heritage Dictionary a scalawag is (was) a white Republican Southerner during Reconstruction, so no (I'm not quite that old).

Every fan base has it's fair share of assholes. Worst experience I've ever had was in Statesboro. Almost every fan that walked by our tailgate flipped us of and screamed ***** you! Inside the stadium fans were throwing stuff and trying to start fights. In line for a drink a couple students came up and shoved me and called me a f'n ******. I'll never return, worst experience I've ever had at a football game. Statesboro is a horrible town, besides football there is no attraction, it's also dry.
Umass had some pretty bad fans at the NC game as well and after they lost they rioted up in Mass....ridiculous.
LSU fans were rough, but all in good fun.
Best fans I've encountered were at Richmond and Furman. Richmond especially.
I would give the "worst fans" award to LSU hands down since you brought them up. We got cussed at, yelled at, flicked off and heckled the entire time we were on campus. Before we even got to campus, while we were driving there, a car tried to run us off the road (and was pretty successful) while flicking us all the bird. WORST FANS EVER! The Gator fans last year couldn't have been a sharper contrast, much friendlier. They literally ruined Louisiana for me and everytime I see some idiot from LA spelling something with "-eaux", I want to punch them now.

Sorry to bring the thread back from yet another north vs south thread..
Only been to 3 away games...
Furman 04 - decent stadium, fans were a little quiet and I can't believe we let you win that one.
El Cit - 2011... pretty sure we had more fans than they did. Couldn't have been 5k total. Dated, but decent facility for a team that can't get anyone to show up.
W&M - 2011 - Loved the old school "medieval times" look of the place. Our staff had a hard time with the booth that couldn't see the field. One of your fans actually asked me "wow, you guys really get into this, don't you?" sometime in the middle of the 3rd qtr when we hadn't stopped standing/screaming/cheering at every single play. Poor guy bought tickets in the middle of our section and left shortly after that.
From what I can see in pictures, App and Montana have great looking stadiums, but with the addition of our new field house (and eventual mid deck on the student side), GSU will have by far the best stadium in FCS.
As to the earlier comments of Paulson looking small, it's actually deceivingly small (much like Montana looks much bigger than it is) . I think it's because it's built into the hill and it's an above ground structure. Once we add the student side deck it will look much bigger.

Hey.... I hope this doesn't go on forever. Simply put.... Lincoln was a politician. He knew what he had to say under the circumstances and was limited by his own knowledge at the time, which was tainted by the ever present dogma of white superiority. Ultimately, he was a brave individual who went against the common belief and helped begin the process of political and social equality that still seeks fulfillment. Whatever shortcomings he had were dwarfed by the intellectual retardation of the prevailing doctrine. I am so happy to live in a post Lincoln world where my own children have the opportunity to realize the incredible potential, contributions and value of all human life!!!!

I appreciate your challenge to the common belief of Lincoln as a saint. He certainly was not. Still, taken in context of all the social and political upheaval of the time, his actions were courageous. He didn't get it all right, but he helped lay the foundation for social justice. Many more brave individuals would be needed to make it a reality. Oh.. and my great grandfather was a notorious member of the Bienville Rifles out of New Orleans, LA. He was shot through the knee at the first Battle of Winchester. I have all his enlistment and discharge papers. I also have a copy of a letter from Robert E. Lee to my great great grandmother on my mother's side, thanking her for making blankets for the Confederate troops who stayed at her home when they passed through PA. I understand and respect all of the legitimate reasons for Southern Sovereignty. Slavery was just not one of them.

A true war between the north and south would last 7 seconds.
We can go hiroshima on your asses :P.
The south fought a war for seperation.
The north fought to reunite which is a million times harder.
In his textbook was a map of North Dakota and it revealed that, with hundreds of missile facilities, the state would possess the world's third largest nuclear arsenal if it were a separate nation.
If the current day north fought a war of seperation they could end the south at the flip of a switch.

First of all, I'm confused as to best and worst. I feel like the "best" place to play would be the place where you're most likely to win. However, I'm gonna take it was the best atmosphere for the home team as everyone else is seeming to do.
Best: Here comes another homer....APP! I feel like Montana or GaSo could also make a valid claim. We have the highest attendance, biggest tailgate, most involved/vocal fans, very fun college town atmosphere, perfect fall weather, one of the most scenic venues in college football, top 3 facilities. etc
Not according to your own board. After the Montana game they started a thread on the APP board about how they need to enclose the endzones so they can begin to compete with how vocal WA Griz is. Multiple posters commented how much more intense it was than App's stadium.
Not trying to start a pizzing match, just bringing up the fact the App fans who came to the game hands down felt Montana was by far and away much louder and intense.

The real shame is in defending a regime that wanted to continue enslaving fellow human beings.
Never mind that there were slaves in the North as well.
It was also the North that took the stance that slaves should only count as 3/5 of a person so as to keep the South from gaining too much influence.
Yes there were slaves in the South. In most cases they were well taken care of, not the dramatizations you see on TV and in movies. They were treated as people. The North was the one sticking them in factories and other horrible conditions and working them to within an inch of their lives.
If slavery disgusted so many in the North, why was it not abolished before the war instead of during? It was a political move to cut the legs out from under the South. The real cause of the Great War was not slavery, it was about balance of power in the govt and between the states. A lot of the same things going on back then are occurring today (immigration and healthcare). All it takes is for the states to grow tired of being pushed around by the national government that has overstepped its bounds. THAT'S what the fight was about. Slavery is just used as the excuse because history books are written by the victors, and they can put as many lies in them as they want.

The American Civil War was not fought wholly over the issue of slavery but to deny it wasn't a very major cause of the conflict is to be delusional, that or one is overly rhapsodic of Shelby Foote's anecdotes in Ken Burns documentary (looking at you citdog).

The citing of the States Declaration of Causes is just ridiculous. It was an Ordinance of Secession....NOT A DECLARATION OF WAR. THE ULTIMATE QUESTION, AND NOT SETTLED AT THE CLOSE OF THE WAR, IS THE RIGHT OF SOVEREIGN STATES TO SECEDE. WE SAY THAT STATES HAVE THE RIGHT AND THAT "THE POWER OF GOVERNMENT IS IN THE CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE". YOU yankee SCUM SAY THAT THE national government IS THE SOLE ARBITER OF ITS POWER AND WONDER WHY IT ALWAYS CLAIMS MORE AND MORE. YOUR HERO, mr. My comment was mostly a sweeping generalization directed at the fact that the largest state has only four flippin' FCS programs but dozens of schools without programs. there are about a dozen schools that could easily make minor changes and play FCS ball following the same strategies that allow the few that do to continue to do so but they make an active choice not to.

Thanks. I could have sworn I saw pics of the CP stadium and it looked really nice.

Cal Poly, Davis and Sac State all have fine FCS stadiums. What's sickening are the stadiums that have sat dormant, deteriorating for the past 30 years or so: UCSB with 17,000 seats, UOP with over 50,000 seats and other examples that break your heart when you think of the great rivalries and traditions that used exist.

I'm not exactly sure what this has to do with football. Perhaps you can continue this on another forum.

Somewhere in here we were talking about good and bad places to play. At least I think. Then the SoCon rose again we're fighting the "War Between the States" all over again...
Meanwhile...
Worst Place: Austin Peay in Clarksville, TN. "Let's Go Peay" is their chant, but they live it pretty well! The place reaks. The visiting locker room is about the size of a small office and is underneath the home stands. The track is only 2-3 feet off the field so any play that goes to the sideline you're likely getting tackled on the track instead of turf.
Lots of people laying it to the Peay... but are there any good places in the OVC to play?
As a fan, I've only been to roadies at Murray and TSU. TSU obviously had the edge in facilities, but it was pretty empty. Murray was empty the two times I went to games there as well. Murray also used to get ripped for having the old astroturf field, but it's been replaced. TSU's band gives the Tigers the edge in my book.

reppies for using an ACCEPTABLE term for THE LATE UNPLEASANTNESS.
I like the ovc, it ain't the SoCon, but y'all play pretty good football out there.

I'd say the best and worst place are both Appalachian State.
As far as facilities, no place that I've been to even compares. I saw games there before the initial upgrade to the visitor side stands(sometime in the mid-90's?) and the difference between then and now is astounding. Likewise, the views from the stadium and the mountain air make for a great setting for college football.
I must say, however, that App is a much less desirable place now than it used to be. Boone just isn't big enough to handle the crowds that they draw on Saturdays, and last year my trip was really frustrating. We got into town several hours before the game, but had to park outside of town and fight the crowds to get towards the stadium. Their fan base has grown so much that there are more 'drunken idiot' fans than ever before. I have definitely been treated worse there by opposing fans than anywhere else in FCS.

True enough that the Griz haven't exactly lit it up in Lake Charles, losing two playoff games by an average of 4.5 points.
On the other hand, the Southland all-time in the playoffs in Wash-Griz is 0-12, with an average loss of 32.9 points. Now that's some classic dying! McNeese is the only Southland team to stay within a touchdown, and only two of those games were within two TDs.

Yup. 51-0 against the best team to come out of the Southland for quite some time really speaks volumes.

Dag! I just joined this site and I'm hating it already. This site has a lot of news and comradery and is great for FCS football, but once again it is another site filled with a bunch of ignorance and fools!
If the webmasters, or whatever they're called had any decency, they would remove senseless comments and pictures. Must be just another site where folks can run amuk.

Southern's pre game etc is good but you really need to experience Boone and Missoula for game atmosphere and fan noise and participation. It's all different, but all good as well.
One day I would like to make a trip to Boone, Missoula and Lake Charles but have ever seen an SU gold rush game? and the Saints "WHO DAT" chant they picked that up from Southern. We even had a local radio talk show host try and claim LSU started it, but even there fans called up and said nope it came from Southern

What I like about Silenoz is that he understands tongue-in-cheek picking, and we both have to own up to the facts. He has done it twice now. All that interests us is head-to-head W's and L's, and a little fun when the Pokes and Griz strap it on.

I am not sure what the SU gold rush game is. I was at the 2004 MSU vs SU game in Baton Rouge.

A gold rush game is usually when SU fans and team wear gold shirts. SU vs MSU was a decent game, but our fans werent into that game at all as we have no history and our fans really dont get excited for non hbcu games unless its a FBS school. They were excited for the ULL and Tulane game as you call tell by the attendence record that was set in Lafayette. You would have to come to one of our rivalry games to understand. SU vs JSU/Famu.
Guess you can watch this clip to get a understanding. This was filmed a hour before the start of the game lol

For the Ivies (stadiums only):Best Princeton, worst Brown.
Ivy League gameday experience: Harvard-Yale in either place. Face it, it's the only Ivy game that still draws a full house (at least at Harvard) or breaks 50K (at Yale).

Outside of student sections, I think you'll find 90%+ of football fanbases don't stand constantly during a football game. I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, but most places sit until there's something to stand for (scoring play, big play, etc).
Gannon... We stand for most of a good game...i have negotiated sit on offense and stand on defense for some fans who have problems standing long periods of time.. you are right about the 90% thing but i like MY sit on offense and standing on defense.

If you ever come to a GSU game you'll find EaglesCliff, Baldy, EagleGus2, GSC75, EaglesDare, and me standing pretty much from horn to horn... we're also on the top row.
