In the FCS Huddle: Top 10 FCS special teams players
Final of an eight-part series featuring the best Football Championship Subdivision players at various positions.

By Craig Haley, FCS Executive Director

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - You might think a place-kicker who often faces pressure-packed situations would do something in his leisure time that's a little less stressful than golf.

But while golf sometimes brings out the worst in people, it sure helps bring out the best in Matt Bevins' kicking results.

"Pretty much (in) golfing you honestly do not have to hit the ball as hard as you can to get it to go far," the Liberty University senior-to-be said. "If you hit it in the sweet spot of the ball on the perfect swinging plane, you're going to hit a great golf ball. And it's the same with kicking. If you take a nice, fluent swing, hit the sweet spot on your foot with the football, it's going to go just fine for you."

The proof is in Bevins' remarkable career. He's been The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS All-America first-team kicker in each of the past two seasons and headlines the FCS Top 10 special teams list as he moves into his final season.

Let the record state, that in 2 of the 8 features by TSN they have featured a Liberty Flame as the headliner of the category. It probably should have been 3 but you get the feeling the nation wasn't ready for QB Mike Brown, PK Matt Bevins AND WR Chris Summers to be profiled as the best in FCS. Let the Big South Media Bias discussions begin.

Charlie Edwards should have gotten more than an honorable mention on this list. That man is a weapon in the field position game. We are going to miss him horribly after this year.

Ok I just have to know how Adrian Mora got snubbed on this.

Last season stats:

Jason Cunningham, Montana State, PK. Accuracy- 83.3% with 20 FGs made. PATs 42-48

Adrian Mora, GSU, PK. Accuracy- 90.5% with 19 FGs made. PATs PERFECT @ 45-45. Also get a program consecutive PAT streak at 95 in a row complete.

Mora just got robbed. Just like he did when it came to All American voting.

Edwards was a snub. Mora has no leg, though. Great from 40 in, but Edwards will play on the next level.

No TJ Glover, he was one of the reasons we won versus UC-Davis

TTU's punter, Nick Campbell, a 4 year starter (to be) has been working out with ex-Titan Craig Hentrich and current Titan, Bret Kern and is apparently crushing the ball all over the place. He had better be preseason all-OVC this year. If they'd quit the gay-*ss rugby punt junk, he would have been all-OVC last year!

Edwards was a snub.... but Edwards will play on the next level.

Is Edwards a weapon? You best your azz! Edwards gave up 45 yards TOTAL in returns in 2010 in 15 games while maintaining a 41 yd average kicking mostly at sea level and outside. He had 19 punts inside the 20 as well.

As for Mora, one of the most impressive kicks I think I've ever seen was the 45 yarder into a 20 mph wind against SCSU in the playoffs. The guy is just money.
