No reason to get into 'expansion mode' at this point... I agree! There's just nothing to be 'picked' just yet from the Div II ranks, the SWAC schools are not budging and you do not want to add non-football institutions.

Regarding league membership, the Board of Directors remained focused on its continuing members, and did not to discuss other possibilities.

"While the Division I conference membership landscape can still be considered somewhat fluid and subject to change, the presidents are confident in the Southland's revised 10-member lineup beginning in 2012-13," Burnett said. "The Board is very knowledgeable of Division I matters and would be prepared to act if the Southland could clearly enhance its membership lineup. But currently, the presidents do not consider the Southland to be in an expansion mode."

With TX State and UTSA gone, and supposedly, Sam and Lamar chomping at the bit to leave, why is SFA never mentioned? Would they be happy with no Texas football rival and stay in the SLC? Never really seen them in the equation to move.

SFA is further behind in facilities - the whole baseball/softball situation comes to mind...

While they have the budget that suits them well and could grow, their biggest issue is that they have been stagnant and not as forward thinking. SHSU and Lamar are also in the Texas State University System, while SFA has had their fair share of problems in their governance.

Who governs SFA?

Never mind. I see in 1969 they were given their own Board of Governors.
