PL schools for 2010 season:
Bucknell: 976
Colgate: 978
Holy Cross: 974
Fordham: 975
Georgetown: 979
Lafayette: 978
Lehigh: 971
Almost indistinguishable. But of particular note: Fordham's APR levels shot up to those of the rest of the league in 2009, their first "full scholarship" year, and got up to the rest of the league in 2010:
Football Fordham University NY 2004 - 2005 949
Football Fordham University NY 2005 - 2006 942
Football Fordham University NY 2006 - 2007 942
Football Fordham University NY 2007 - 2008 949
Football Fordham University NY 2008 - 2009 960
Coincidence? I think not.

Jackson State had their waiver approved and I think Southern had their waiver approved as well. I am not sure but I haven't heard about any champ. bans.

Because the contemporaneous penalties are meant to be the "shot across the bow" and not the be-all/end-all punitive hammer, the CAP decided to limit the contemporaneous penalties that can be assessed to one team to about 10 percent of the team's financial aid limit. That includes rounding up to the next whole number for headcount sports. For example, in men's and women's basketball (both headcount sports), the maximum penalty would be two scholarships. In baseball (an equivalency sport with a maximum 11.7 grants-in-aid), the maximum penalty would be 1.17 scholarships.

Here is what makes me proud of the new coaching staff...and the hard work of the administration...
Not only did they finally make the threshold score to get all their scholarships and practice time back (the first time since the APR was instituted). But check out the 4 years scores (particularly the last one)...
2006-07 931
2007-08 915
2008-09 867
2009-10 988
A 121 point increase for the Mocs from the last year of Allison to the first year of Huesman shows the commitment Russ and his staff have placed on academics.
Our AD, Rick Hart, also deserves praise. APR was a huge mess when he got to Chattanooga (that's what happens when you have an "ol ball coach" as AD)...the academic staff basically consisted of one person, now there is an entire department. All 17 UTC sports were above the threshold this year and 3 teams had perfect 1,000 point scores. xthumbsupx

My blog posting mostly concerns the Patriot League - and, specifically, Fordham's great APR numbers - but I think there's also a point to be made about the overall issuing of the APR awards now that affects all of FCS.

Texas Southern, which played for last year's SWAC football title, must give up nearly 15 football scholarships, while Jackson State lost half a dozen. Both of those schools will have their practice time reduced.

That is strange. Their APR for 09-10 is 734 (down from 795 for 08-09). Why don't they have a post season ban and why must they lose so many scholarships?

Here's another article on Texas Southern's sanctions... still confused on how they are able to maintain their SWAC title...
Texas Southern will lose 14.78 of the 63 football scholarships allowed for the 2011-12 school year because of its historically low performance under the NCAA’s Academic Progress Report formula, and an athletic department administrator said TSU could post a perfect APR score for the next two years and still run the risk of more sanctions because of past failures to retain and graduate football players.
TSU, which won the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s 2010 football title but dismissed coach Johnnie Cole this spring as it awaits the results of an NCAA probe that could include evidence of academic irregularities, suffered the most severe hit, in terms of lost scholarships, of any program sanctioned by the NCAA for APR shortcomings. Its football practice schedule will be cut from 20 hours per week to 16.

Excellent. I thought that APR was only based on those players on Athletic Scholarship, and I thought the Ivys were all "need based"? I guess I'm not smart enough to figure out the APR, but if this is true then wouldn't the Ivy League and PFL not have APRs?

I thought you could only lose a maximum of 10% of the scholarships granted? I'm pretty sure Texas Southern doesn't offer 147 football scholarships. If Southern and Jackson State are to get bans, why in the world wouldn't Texas Southern? If anyone can get to the bottom of this, it's Texas Terror.

Great job once again, Sam Baker. Will this ****ing nightmare ever end!!
How can you blame low ARP on the AD? GSU's problem with APR is not GPA, its with player turnover, you've got to retain players. GSU's actual '09-10 APR is - 914, while your actual '08-09 APR was - 907. What did you expect?

How can you blame low ARP on the AD? GSU's problem with APR is not GPA, its with player turnover, you've got to retain players. GSU's actual '09-10 APR is - 914, while your actual '08-09 APR was - 907. What did you expect?
Our AD publicly admitted after year one that he didn't understand how it was calculated, and said he wished that the NCAA had done a trial run. Apparently that and playoff bid paperwork are too tricky for only one AD in America: good ol' Sammy.

Not to mention going through coaches like toilet paper. It's hard to keep a team together and reinforce the important things when the coach don't stick around. From what I've heard/read, Monken has the team on the right track and we now have more resources to prevent academic issues in the future.

Add up the scores for 2010-2009, 2009-2008, 2008-2007, 2007-2006 and divide by 4. It's a 4 year average not 5 ;)
And to figure out the APR for a single season, the equation is:
2(# of players academically eligible)/2(# of players with athletic scholly's[Counters]) x 1000 = APR

Does that one work out? I know it's typically stated as ((Total # of points)/(Total Possible Points))*1000 = APR with points being counted for each player, 1 for good standing and 1 for retention. Never really thought about splitting them out in the numerator and denominator like that and I don't really feel like doing the math right now haha.

Nicely done.

But yeah, I just found it easier computing the calculations splitting them.

The NCAA did a trial run...in 2004. This is the seventh year of the program.

He would have gotten to the word numerator and been confused.
