Besides the obvious Homecoming does your school have special names for other games during the season?

At North Dakota we have the Potato Bowl (since 1965), Hall of Fame game, and Military Appreciation Day.

Most schools have the last home game as Sr Game. SDSU has that.
Beyond that SDSU has three named home games:
Cereal Bowl - First home game of season.
Beef Bowl - Second home game of season.
Hobo Day - SDSU homecoming, and one of the most unique named homecoming tradition around. Biggest ONE DAY EVENT in South Dakota.

Dakota Marker - Game between NDSU and SDSU, recently named game between two teams closing in on 100 games. Odd years at Brookings, even years at Fargo.

Since SDSU will be reunited with USD is there or was there a trophy with them? I know we had the Nickel with NDSU and the Sitting Bull Trophy with USD (both retired). Also how did they come up with those names Cereal, Hobo and Beef?

Montana and Montana State play in what many fans know as "The Brawl of the Wild" for the Great Divide Trophy (also known as the "Griz-Cat" or "Cat-Griz" game, depending on which side you favor). 110 games, 69-36-5 in favor of the Griz.

Montana also plays Eastern Washington in "The Governor's Cup".

Montana formerly played Idaho for "The Little Brown Stein", but Idaho is too chicken or cheap to play the Griz any more, having lost the last four times they attempted it in 2000-2003, and playing in a crappy dome that can't seat enough people to pay enough to entice the Griz back to Moscow. (WAC rules won't allow them to come to Missoula to get their butts kicked any more--probably as a direct result of the losses they sustained there in 2001 and 2003.)

UCA and McNeese have the "Red Beans and Rice Bowl". It's an annual fundraiser to feed the hungry in our two states. The idea came from the fact that rice is a major product of the two states and Louisiana, of course, knows how to cook up some good Cajun food! xbowx

Horseshoe Classic. Annual game between Cal Poly and UC Davis as both schools have a long tradition of playing each other dating back to 1938 and both schools have a Mustang as their mascot.

Battle of Sabine Pass where 50 Confederates defeated 5,000 yankees and suffered 0 casualties is also very instructive.

Old Dominion is bringing back the Oyster Bowl this year, played between the Monarchs and the Dukes of James Madison on 10/29. This is the 62nd game so there's a lot of history to it. Dating back to the 1940's, Foreman Field was used to host the annual game. Collegiate players who have participated include Roger Staubach, Fran Tarkenton and Bruce Smith.

The Bronze Derby //http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bderby.jpg
The Bronze DerbyTraditionally, one of the athletic highlights on PC's campus is the Bronze Derby[14] football game. Played annually against nearby Newberry College, the game is the subject of a long-standing rivalry between the two schools.

The rivalry dates back to the a particularly heated game played during 1946-47 basketball season. Before the game commenced, a set of PC students unfurled a large banner inscribed with “Beat H ... Out of Newberry!” on the wall of the gymnasium behind the PC student section. While the crowd was distracted, however, a group of Newberry students climbed the outside of the gym wall, crawled through a window, and ripped the banner off the wall before fleeing into the night. After the game ended (PC won 51-47), PC students demanded that the banner be returned. The Newberry students refused, and a fight ensued. In the midst of the epic struggle, a Newberry student snatched a derby from the head of a PC student.

A triumphant PC player hoists the Bronze DerbyIn the days following the derby theft, Frank E. Kinard - a senior at Newberry and editor of the school paper - received a letter from Charles MacDonald, then assistant athletic publicity director at PC. MacDonald suggested that the derby be recovered so that it could be made to be a symbol of athletic rivalry between the two schools, to which Kinard and the Newberry student body agreed. The derby was then unearthed, although the identity of the abductor was kept secret, and the hat was immortalized in bronze, forever a symbol of the rivalry between the two teams.

During the early years of the Bronze Derby rivalry, the hat was exchanged between Newberry and PC at every athletic event, the first occurring at a basketball game on February 28, 1947, which PC won 44-42. Eventually, however, it was decided that the derby would be awarded only to the winner of the Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Day Bronze Derby Game, rather than at every athletic event. The game was then rescheduled during the 1992 season after the teams and the conference moved to NCAA Division II (the game date conflicted with the playoff schedule).

Currently, the annual Bronze Derby game has been temporarily suspended, given PC's move out of Division II athletics and into Division I. The game, however, is still intended to be played once PC's transitional phase is completed.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bronzederby.jpg
