As expected, we open up at home vs. Southern Connecticut. It is not ideal having a D-II team on our schedule, but this does give CCSU a much needed home game and SCSU is still somewhat considered a 'rival' in football.

This is the 53rd game between the schools for the "Governors Cup." Southern leads the series 35-17, but Central has won 3 straight and 4 of the last five.

Head football coach Jeff McInerney announced his 2011 football schedule on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will once again play an 11-game schedule, five of which will be played on Arute Field. Central will open the year on Sept. 3 hosting Southern Connecticut on Arute Field. The Blue Devils enter the season winners of 14-straight home games, the second longest home winning streak in the country.

"We are once again excited to announce our football schedule for the upcoming season," McInerney said. "We have five games on Arute Field where we have been tremendously successful during the last few seasons. We also have a pair of strong non-conference road games at James Madison and UMass. We are looking forward to our continued preparation for the fall."

McInerney and the Blue Devils will host Southern on Sept. 3 and then travel to James Madison on Sept. 10. They will open Northeast Conference play on the road at Wagner on Sept. 17 before returning to New Britain to host Monmouth in their NEC home opener on Sept. 24. They will play a second straight home game vs. Sacred Heart on Oct. 1, before returning to non-conference play at UMass on Oct. 8.

"Our goal each and every season is to win the NEC outright," McInerney said. "We are 14-2 in league play over the last two seasons, and are unbeaten at home. We graduated a strong senior class, but we are confident that we have the players in place to contend for another NEC title this fall."

NEC could use the victories against James Madison and UMass on the road - will be tough to come by, but would be very worthwhile for the league as it attempts to gain some traction as a league...

Agreed. The only problem with them for JMU is it will be their first game at the new 25,000 seat stadium. Should be an atmosphere that would give purple and gold fans goose bumps. Good luck to CCSU staying close early on...

Looks like a strong schedule. JMU and UMass on the road are tough ones. Good Luck in 2011!
