Las Cruces, N.M. – A 16-run fifth inning lifted the New Mexico State baseball team to an enormous win Saturday afternoon as they downed the Northern Iowa Panthers 37-11 at Presley Askew Field to even the series at one-game apiece. The Aggies (9-8) set a school record for most runs scored in a game, surpassing the old record of 35 set back in 1981 as NMSU defeated Western New Mexico 35-0. The loss was the first of the year for UNI as they fall to 7-1 on the season.
The Aggies also set a school record for RBI in a game as 33 of the runs were knocked in, passing the old mark of 32 set last year in a 32-4 win over Chicago State. NMSU also fell only one walk shy of the school record as 19 batters were walked en route to the win while they tallied 22 hits on the day and the Panthers committed nine errors.
