Sam Houston's fun 3 game home schedule has been released on their website (gobearkats.com) Looks like Sam should change their name to the Nomads, or the Washington Generals

Date Opponent Location Time (CT) Results Media
Sat, Sep 08 Incarnate Word Huntsville TBA

Sat, Sep 15 Baylor Waco TBA

Sat, Sep 22 Central Arkansas * Conway, Ark. TBA

Sat, Sep 29 Texas Southern Dynamo Stadium TBA

Sat, Oct 06 Stephen F. Austin * Reliant Stadium TBA

Sat, Oct 13 Nicholls State * Thibodaux, La. TBA

Sat, Oct 20 McNeese State (Homecoming) * Huntsville 2 p.m.

Sat, Oct 27 Lamar * Beaumont TBA

Sat, Nov 03 Southeastern Louisiana * Huntsville TBA

Sat, Nov 10 Northwestern State * Natchitoches, La. TBA

Sat, Nov 17 Texas A&M College Station TBA

140 mi to Waco, 50 mi to College Station and 70 mi to Houston (where probably most SH alumni already live anyway).

Not to mention they'll make more money on the A&M and Baylor games than a home game would've brought in.

That's life in the FCS for a have-not.

The mileage isn't a big deal, the problem is, when you need to build a fanbase, especially with incoming students..you don't have it.

Sure they are going to travel well to Baylor, A&M, and the two games in Houston, because the Alumni are going to think "Oh ****, they aren't playing in Huntsville. They're a big deal"

Those same alumni won't come to Huntsville unless it's homecoming or Sam makes a deep run in the playoffs.

I'm failing to see how their schedule is any worse than a 10 game schedule with no FBS and 5 home games in Huntsville (2 of them vs DII teams).

They'll make more money on the FBS games over the home games with DII teams, both of which are easily drivable for those fans who want to go to Waco or CS, and two of the away games are in Houston, which gives opportunity for Houston alumni who normally wouldn't drive up to H-ville a chance to see a game.

If you saw the normal attendance in Bowers, you'd understand. If you saw the (lack of ) Sam fan base..you'd get it as well.

Gonna be weird to not play Idaho State and Weber every year :(

Number two in FBS and number 20 in the country in baseball. We are looking good. Yall....uh .....er....uh......Oh wait, at least you have Nacanowhere. See you in Houston. I hope your team shows up.

Yeah hows that basketball team doing? BTW we play in FCS

Did I lie about your fan base? Nope. You guys didn't draw dick at bowers until your impressive playoff run. Next years schedule is great for alumni, but three home games doesn't help home attendance.

SFA has the same problem. We have students who'd rather go home or watch UT or A&M. You have the exact same students and if you do not believe me, go visit your campus and count the maroon shirts

Now calm down before you violate your probation.

Well Rev, at least you redeemed yourself by qualifying your comments. SFA fan base isnt much better.

SHSU fan base was growing in 2001 and 2004 with the two playoff runs. Sam Houston had a great opportunity in those years to really get things going with the fan base, but then they hire Todd Freaking Whitten and all that hard work went backwards. Another deep playoff run this season will have things really hopping in Huntsville.

TW did wreck your football program. There is no denying that he is one of the worst things to happen to the Southland Conference, let alone Sam Houston

It looks like Fritz has you on the right track and hopefully (for y'all) you keep the fans.

And I agree with you, SFA has a horrible fan base. We have students, and we have Nacogdoches blue hairs. It amazes me how you see Alumni only showing up to BOTPW. It actually pisses me off.

I noticed that Hampton, Gardner-Webb and Jacksonville are the only ones left with 10 games now. Hampton has bye weeks on 9/22 & 10/6. Liberty and Gardner Webb play 10/6 and have byes on 9/29. I wonder if Liberty and G-Webb would be willing to move their game back a week to allow G-Webb and Hampton to play? Both Hampton and G-Webb have 5 away games and there is supposed "bad-blood" between Hampton and Liberty.

But despite those "hurdles", can this happen?
