Josh Schuler’s 3-pointer from the left corner with 2.2 seconds left in double overtime lifted the Sioux to a shocking 77-76 victory over South Dakota on Saturday night in the Great West Conference championship game on the campus of Utah Valley University.

UND, a team picked to finish dead last in the Great West Conference preseason poll, won the program’s first conference championship since a Division II North Central Conference title in 1994. It was the program’s first Division I title as well.

UND, which improved to 19-14, advances to play Air Force in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com tournament on Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The 2011 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) is a postseason single-elimination tournament of 24 NCAA Division I teams. The CIT begins with 12 first round games. Four of the teams that win first-round games will advance to the quarterfinals, while the other eight teams will play for the right to advance to the quarterfinals in the second round March 18-19. The announcement of the 2011 field will be made on March 13, 2011.

23 of the selected teams are from a pool that are not invited to the 2011 NCAA Tournament or the 2011 National Invitation Tournament. The 24th team will be the winner of the 2011 Great West Conference Men's Basketball Tournament (which receives an automatic bid).
