South Carolina State University trustees are mulling plans for a new Health, Wellness and Conference Complex.
The first phase of the proposed facility would be a five-level complex located at the north end zone of the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. Its estimated cost is $17 million.
The second, $8 million phase of the project would include locker rooms and space for training and rehabilitation. It would also house the ticket office.
Last week, the university's budget committee approved asking the full Board of Trustees to move ahead with the first phase of the project. If the full board approves the proposal, the university will seek to borrow $17 million amortized over 20 years at an interest rate of 6 percent annually.
