According to reliable sources, Grambling State football coach Rod Broadway is the new coach at N.C. A&T. Broadway led the Tigers to a black college national championship and several SWAC championships.

He's from North Carolina, went to school at North Carolina, was the coach at North Caralina Central, makes sense. He's going back home, if it's true.

As first reported on MEAC Fans Zone (www.meacfanszone.proboards.com) on December 2nd of last year. Haha. They are only almost two months behind on this breaking news.

The SWAC has become a stepping done for other FCS schools. Is it really viewed as 'beneath' the rest of FCS?
That's the third coach to leave the SWAC for another FCS school this year...
And sure, know about the native homes, etc - but seriously...

I have nothing good to say about this. All I know is Eagle-Aggie game is about to be ridiculous this year.

All three cases they were going back home. Nothing more nothing less. Broadway is from NC. Fraiser is from DC and NCCU is only a hop and a skip home. Collins went to his alma mater. Not to mention all three got a nice pay increase. BCU OC left and went to PV.

I thought we already determined that Collins took a pay decrease to go from Alcorn to Northern Colorado...
Collins got $140k at Alcorn.

Broadway to stay at Grambling State
Fri Jan 28, 2011 - 12:09pm PDF Print E-mail
The speculation is over.
gsu_logoRod Broadway is staying as head football coach at Grambling State University.
The university issued an official statement this (Friday) morning indicating that Broadway would remain at GSU.
GRAMBLING, LA - This morning Coach Rod Broadway announced to Grambling State University President’s Executive Committee (PEC) that he will be staying at Grambling.
The committee was quite pleased to hear the announcement and looks forward to another
winning season.
Broadway had apparently been considering a move to North Carolina A&T but after weighing offers and counteroffers from both schools, he decided to stay in Louisiana.

I have... but still have seen two SWAC coaches leave for other FCS programs.
Have seen SWAC coaches in other sports leave their school for lower-level schools that pay more and likely present better opportunities to compete for regional, national success. A stepping stone - regardless of what Broadway did.
Not hard to be a stepping stone when you are continually ranked last or second-to-last in RPI of every sport for which you compete (with football this year being an exception - congrats on the improvement). Does hurt when the SWAC is the poorest funded athletic conference at the Div I level.

Latest news: Rod Broadway has abruptly resigned from Grambling after receiving a lot of "negative feedback" from Grambling fans that is rumored (and I stress RUMORED) to have included death threats against him and his family.
He is now on his way back to his home in North Carolina. Could be headed to NC A&T after all... BUT that's not all... According to the Raleigh News & Observer, he has expressed interest in becoming the first head coach of the Charlotte 49ers...

If what has been rumored to have been said is true. That mess is cold-blooded and classless. And I can't blame him for leaving.
Broadway at Charlotte would be downright scary. xeyebrowx

Disclaimer: Nothing is confirmed from A&T as of this moment. There is a press conference/annoucement scheduled for this afternoon and we'll know for sure then. However, here are three different sources reporting this.

Rod Broadway has resigned from his post as head coach of the Gramblling State football team, and will take the same position at North Carolina A&T.
GSU announced Broadway's departure in a press release Thursday afternoon. Last Friday Broadway announced he had turned down an offer from North Carolina A&T and would remain at Grambling, but it appears he has since had a change of heart.
