The report by KRIV-TV in Houston is not certain whether the holding out of QB Arvell Nelson from the SWAC title game is linked to this current investigation...

When he was kept out of the game (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?80134-TSU-Starting-QB-Held-Out-of-SWAC-Title-Game), there was no further information available.

If anything - some of these violations may have happened before Charles McClelland, the AD, cleaned out and has righted the ship of TSU - watching as the school has seen unprecedented athletic success.

Texas Southern held one of its top players out of the SWAC title game last month due to what McClelland at the time called "issues regarding TSU quarterback Arvell Nelson and his ability to participate in the SWAC Championship game. Because of concerns, the university has decided not to allow Nelson to play in the game."

Neither the NCAA's letter or TSU's statement offers evidence that Nelson's situation is connected to the NCAA's investigation.

Berman is hot on the trail. It won't be long until this is revealed one way or the other.

I think I got three 'breaking news' e-mails from Berman yesterday... this being the final one. Believe one was about the Shell Houston Open and forgot what the other was... either way, he has a pretty 'coverage' of all things local.

Never good to see a fellow program on the firing line... hope there's nothing major to be found.

Nobody hustles harder covering local sports for a TV station anywhere else in America. But it is tougher & tougher for him to break stories these days due to the prevalence of the web.
