View Full Version : No Extension for Comegy

Comegy is going to have to put together a good season this year or he'll be walking. Jackson State did not renew his contract, perhaps to give them financial flexibility if it is determined it is best for Comegy to walk without them forking over a buyout?

The administration’s decision to not give Comegy an extension is a telling one. The coach made it clear to The Clarion-Ledger in November that he’d like an extension but that he’d respect Braddy’s decision either way.

Schools normally avoid having a coach of a high profile sport on a one-year contract because of the “lame duck” status that could be associated with it.

It’s not clear if Comegy’s profanity laced tirade following the loss at Alabama State had anything to do with the decision. But this is certainly clear: Expectations weren’t met this past season, when the Tigers finished 8-3 and tied for first place in the SWAC Eastern Division.

Can not say this is a surprise. I am surprised he has lasted this long. He is a great guy but I am not sure of his coaching pedigree.

Jackson State went 8-3 this year. Granted, it was against SWAC teams, but that's still not bad considering they are a SWAC team themselves. The loss to Alabama State is a bit embarrassing, but otherwise it looks like the coach put a decent product on the field by conference standards.

Eh, I was feeling ornery last night apparently, in retrospect that was a bit in poor taste. Still though, why is he in danger of losing his job over an 8-3 season? Is Jackson State one of those 'win the conference title or else' schools?

Comegy is 32-24 in five years with four winning seasons (8-3 in 2010), two SWAC East Division titles and a SWAC Championship ... Yeah, let's wait and see about extending that contract xrolleyesx
