CORAL GABLES — University of Miami football coach Larry Coker continued working toward filling out his staff by bringing in two candidates to interview Monday, sources said.
Joe Pannunzio, the head coach at Division I-AA Murray State for six seasons before he was fired in November, was brought in to discuss the position of special teams coordinator. The vacancy was created when Don Soldinger, who also coached UM's running backs, was fired on Jan. 2 with three other assistants.
Pannunzio, 30-37 at Murray State, was dismissed after the Racers finished 2-9 and went winless in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2005. Pannunzio previously spent five seasons as an assistant to Tommy Tuberville at Mississippi and Auburn.
