The NCAA didn't sponser womens' basketball back then so the UConn womens basketball hype machine can still say "NCAA" womens' basketball. They played in the AAU.
But, anyway, I think that if ESPN is going to be acting like it means something that UConn won more consecutive games in WOMENS' basketball than UCLA won in MENS' basketball (two totally different things), it ought to mention that if we're just talking about college basketball in general regardless of sex the Lady Huskies still have a long way to go before they can claim to have the longest winning streak ever.
