Just a quick glance so I could be wrong, but Del St has as many guys on the list (2) as does UD (also two, and all 4 are 3rd teamers). This may wrap up the Eddie Robinson Award for Keeler - basically has taken a team of nobodies to the favorite to win the national title.

Congrats Jeremy Caldwell for 2nd team KR. If he stays healthy next year, watch out on both sides of the ball.

Is my eyesight failing me, or is there not a single Villanova defender on all three all-America teams?

The problem is who do you put? Nobody really stood out above the rest. Phil Steele honored three Villanova players on offense and did not feature any defenders either. In fact, I don't think anyone honored any Villanova defenders. They do have a couple young guys who could be All-Americans next year between the CB Pitts and both freshman defensive ends.

Not sure how I feel about how this was handled... has this been done in the past???

The voting at quarterback reflected the order of the Walter Payton Award voting. Western Illinois senior Matt Barr, Stephen F. Austin senior Jeremy Moses and Appalachian State junior DeAndre Presley have been invited to the national awards banquet on Jan. 6 in Frisco, Texas. The order of the All- America quarterbacks will be released after the unveiling of the Payton Award.

Abuhoff is just a sophomore but with a lot of potential. Unfortunate to see only one Ivy player (him) on the list.

What about LB Marquis Kirkland? 15 tackles for loss, 100+ tackles, 2 interceptions, on the No. 7 rushing defense in the entire country? No, really, what more could he have done?

Well first of all his team ranking should have no bearing. You pick the individual based on what he has done and not his team. With that said that is a good choice. But here is my question back. Which linebacker on their list is he better than and not just in stats but in terms of ability/talent?

Start with LB Jer-ryan Harris, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Fr. A tackle machine, when you look at his stats initially... 129 in all.... until you peek at the fact that 77 are assists, and he only had two solo tackles for loss. Marquis is certainly ahead of him on my ballot - not that Mr. Harris is a bad player, but nothing compared to Kirkland IMO.

As long as you have one to put in there. For the record I don't have either on my AA list and I think Kirkland is better between the two. A lot of folks call out names but don't have one that they think should be taken off so just making sure! :)

Yup, there was a kicker in the state of Georgia who didn't kick half his games in a dome and was 19/21 on FG's and 45/45 on XP's yet got no mention...

The same team boasted a punter who led the nation in net punting and had 43 out of 56 punts either downed inside the 20 or fair caught yet received no mention...

So don't be celebrating too hard as this list isn't worth a whole lot.

I'll say GSU's kicker Mora was the best that I saw this year. Watching him at halftime kick was impressive & then he drilled a 3Q FG from 40 with ease.

Grambling's Cliff Exama got overlooked...

TACKLES (All positions) .........Cl G Pos. Solo Ast. Total Avg/G Sacks
1. HARRIS, Jerryan-UAPB FR 11 50 79 129 11.7 0.0
2. Exama,C-GRAM ... JR 10 61 45 106 10.6 2.5
3. FULGHUM,D-TXSO SR 12 61 40 101 ..8.4 11.0

Also had 3 interceptions with one returned for a TD... The heart and soul of Grambling's defense. When he went down against TxSU in the third quarter he had 13 tackles (9 solos). Fortunately, he'll be back for his senior season next year.

So what, Vance was 15 out of 17, was 3-4 outside of 40 yards and had 2 game winning Fg's. Stop whining.

More than half his games in Domes. For some reason, Georgia State had 7 home games. That's what happens when you scheduled multiple NAIA's and D2's.

Exactly. The most impressive kick I saw all year was Mora's FG against SCSU in the first round of the playoffs- a 45 yarder into a 10-15 mph wind.

Also, Mora was 4-4 outside of 40 yards- ALL outdoors-. He is also 95/95 on XP's in his career.

As for Edwards, I also forgot to mention he had 13 punts of 50+ along with the 24 fair catches & 19 inside the 20 out of 56 punts- ALL outdoors and with every game but one (@WCU) being played at low elevations. Very impressive...

I unfortuantely can't give much credence to a list that doesn't have Ryan Steed of Furman at least on one of the teams. He was arguably the best defensive player in the SoCon in 2010.

I think youd be impressed with Bevins...he struggled from 50+ early one but after making a little tweak about midseason it was like he couldnt miss and he was back to his consensus All America form from last year

No that would be Pall (Wofford), Legree (App.) or Brent Russell (GSU).

Still not sure how Russell didn't make first team. Anyone who saw this kid play in person can tell you he is the biggest nightmare in opponent offensive coordinator's minds after a game with us.

Oh well, continue to underrate MeanBearPig. He will be back next year. And the year after that. And he will be hungry and out to tear some limbs off of other QBs from other teams and eat them for breakfast.

Brent Russell is not only the best player in the Socon, but the best in the country. Absolute mockery of a list.

Have to agree but Steed is up there. If I was rating the defenders in the SoCon I would actually say that my top five would be 1. Brent Russell, GSU 2. Mark LeGree, App State 3. Ryan Steed, Furman 4. DJ Smith, App State 5. DE Ameet Pall, Wofford. I also think that Laron Scott, Bryce Smith, and Kadarron Anderson are up there as well.

Pall is a solid player but a non factor in the big games for the most part, with much of his production coming against pass happy teams who weren't ranked and low level teams. I always say the true dominant players will get looks by the NFL and I see Russell, LeGree, Smith, and Steed all getting drafted or at least getting a shot. Pall is a limited athlete who makes what he does because he has a motor and doesn't give up on plays often. However, he does lack elite athletic ability and skills that Russell, Steed, Smith, and LeGree all have.

I wouldn't go that far but he is probably the best defensive tackle and should be the preseason defensive player of the year by the SoCon coaches over Pall. I think teams showed later in the year that you can make Pall a non factor while Russell only got better as the season went on. There is no doubt in my mind that the preseason DEF POY in the SoCon is Russell and I see him, Holmes of UMASS, Evans of UNH, Johnson of Montana, and Steed of Furman as the top defensive players returning overall.

You see it like I do. He may well be the best corner I've seen in SoCon play in a while.

If Wiliam Middleton being drafted in the 5th round two years ago is any indication, I think Steed will be a lock for the draft. He's bigger than Middleton and has put up superior numbers at this point in his career. I'm anxious to see what he does as a senior with a head coach whose actually of a defensive mind.

Steed doesn't have the horses playing in front of him at the collegiate level that Middleton had either.

When Will Rackley starts suiting up for Sunday games (which he will) he won't care too much that he didn't make the TSN team. Oh, and John Skelton (Fordham) to Andre Roberts (Citadel) to beat the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas night? Nice. Jerry Jones in agony. Score one for the little guys. Too bad for Miles Austin (Monmouth) - I wish he played for anyone but the devil incarnate down there.

The strange thing I took away from watching UD this season was no one player jumped out at me (not like the Flacco/Cuff years). They were just solid every where. Machine like. That balance across the squad could hurt at the end of season awards. It's not that UD doesn't have deserving players, they just don't jump out at you. I mean that as a big complement to the program.
