Former Eddie Robinson Award winner steps down... highly touted assistant Heishma Northern taking over...
HOUSTON - Prairie View A&M athletics director Fred Washington told FOX 26 Sports Monday head football coach Henry Frazier has stepped down for personal reasons.
Washington said Heishma Northern, the Panthers head coach-in-waiting, is Prairie View's new head football coach.
In 2009 Frazier led the Panthers to their first SWAC championship since 1964.
Because of that success Frazier was named the SWAC Coach of the Year.

Think I can take this from word on the street to will be official shortly:
Houston Chronicle (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/college/7337699.html#loopbegin)
Frazier, who took over at Prairie View in 2004 after leaving Division II Bowie State, was 43-30 in seven seasons with the Panthers and 69-54 overall in 12 years as a collegiate head coach.
He turned around Prairie View’s moribund program, leading it to a 7-3 record in 2007 for its first winning season since 1976 and following that up with back-to-back 9-1 seasons.
The Panthers won the 2009 Southwestern Athletic Conference title, the program’s first since 1964.

Waiting on final approval from the Board of Trustees. Been sitting on this news all day.

Have known about this yesterday. Just waited for official word to validate it.
Nice catch NCCU. You'll have a sound and very stingy defense coupled w/ very good special teams and an offense that is somewhat conservative, considering the capability of who's @ QB, WR, and RB.

Does HF3 think he reached the summit in fixing up the PVAMU program and giving them credibility? With just a SWAC title to play for and is legacy at PVAMU already set, is there nothing beyond that which entices him? What's the true reasoning behind a move to NCCU?

Apparently he wanted to come back to the East Coast to be closer to his family. I think this played a part in them naming a head-coach-in-waiting. He apparently applied at Del State and Howard as well.
Besides, we certainly don't feel sorry for any SWAC school after Grambling recruited and hired our old coach.

Panther88 is on the mark. Henry leaves PVAM at a good time, riding off with the players who meant so much to the Panther program. Also, the comment earlier about wanting the opportunity to play for a playoff berth is on the mark from my conversations with him as well.

Well I hope he opens it up. Conservative is not going to get it done in the new look MEAC of 2011.

Four more NCCU coaches courtesy of PVAMU...
Prairie View A&M football coach Heishma Northern will have a few more staff vacancies to fill after four offensive assistants left to join former coach Henry Frazier III at North Carolina Central.
Northern said Monday that offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Michael Bryant, running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Dwayne Foster, tight ends coach Roy Jones and wide receivers coach Lamar Manigo had stepped down to follow Frazier. Like Frazier, all four are natives of the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area and will be closer to home with their new jobs.
