Certification is meant to ensure integrity in athletic departments and help them improve, according to the NCAA.

LaFleur said the paperwork problem is because Southern’s NCAA compliance officer has other job responsibilities and that her area of expertise is not in compliance.

LaFleur said Southern has been lacking in the area for two years since the last compliance officer left and that his requests to hire someone new in the financially struggling athletic department have not been approved.

“I feel like I’m a quarterback without a guard and a left tackle,” LaFleur said.

More like incompetence on his part. Hopefully this will get him fired and we can return to our normal place @ the top of the SWAC in athletics. xnodx

Why is it his fault? Based on his remarks, he's been pushing the Southern board to give him an opportunity to make the hires necessary...

Poor Cador, does not seem he's getting his baseball upgrades as quickly as he intended. Did he get that other coach he was promised as well?

A write-up from the Onnidan on Southern's issues...

The athletic department’s well-documented financial challenges in recent years, spurred by a drop in football ticket sales revenue along with state-mandated budget cuts, has left the program in the lurch.

Plus, the university’s recent decision to build a new baseball stadium with no corresponding plans to address upgrading the women’s softball facility, stirred the pot on the program’s lagging Title IX performance, further aggravating the athletics situation.

Still, the problems besetting Southern’s athletic program are familiar to many Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) of all competitive levels, which all suffer from lack of funding.
