The Northern Iowa football team’s noon Football Championship Subdivision first round playoff game against Lehigh kicks off a 10-hour marathon of Panther sports.

The Northern Iowa volleyball team will face Creighton in the Missouri Valley Conference volleyball championship match, which begins at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the McLeod Center, and the Panthers men’s basketball team plays North Dakota at 8 p.m.

“I really haven’t talked to anybody that’s picking and choosing,” Northern Iowa athletic director Troy Dannen said of the triple-header. “The fact that the scheduling sets up the way that it does, you can do all three.”

First things first.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference champion Panthers (7-4) meet Patriot League winner Lehigh (9-2) for the first time — and despite a crowd that’s expected to be several thousand short of sellout, Northern Iowa will make full use of its noisy UNI-Dome edge.

“We’re fortunate to have a home game,” Farley said. “With all those things that happened, who knows? You might have been on the road.”
