STATESBORO - His body and heart tugged in conflict, much like Georgia Southern and Furman did throughout Saturday afternoon.
Eagles quarterback Jaybo Shaw struggled to get to his feet after a devastating hit ended his key 9-yard fourth-quarter run. He rose to his knees before doubling back down in pain and pointing his head on the turf of Paladin Stadium.
“He got hit hard and I looked around thinking, are we going to have to put (backup quarterback Jerick) McKinnon in?” GSU coach Jeff Monken said.
The Eagles had just marched 92 yards to the Furman 1-yard line as time ticked down on their football season. Any chance the battered and bruised Shaw was coming out of the game?
Forgetting what the rest of his body was saying, Shaw took instructions from his heart.
