It may be good that 4 more teams get a chance to play their way in but why have 5 seeds? The 4th and 5th teams kind of get a difficult path in that they play each other early on in the playoffs.
Seems that 4 tops seeds is still a better system.

So every team from the CAA can get a seed:)
I suspect it is because 10 teams get a 1st round bye, so half of them should get home games.

Because NCAA rules require one-fourth of the field to be seeded. The fifth seed is meaningless, unless one or more of the top four get upset early, giving the No. 5 seed a home playoff game in the quarterfinals, or semifinals. In actuality, the committee is having to choose what 12 teams receive first-round byes. So in a sense, 12 teams are getting seeded.
