Maybe it's just that I've become way to wrapped up in Griz football or something but I just can't get excited about watching or even reading about the Olympics. It's as closing to feeling unpatriotic as I've ever felt!

Well, for the average male, its hard to get excited about figure skating. All the other sports I enjoy watching, but they show alot of figure skating, can't watch that

Like I said earlier................too boring.
BTW: I thought Mr. BIGMOUTH BODE was supposed to win everything the way he was running his mouth. Talking about cheaters. Guess sking and drinking is better. xlolx
Dude talked trash about everyone from football players to baseball players and can't even finish in the top 5 in his events.
Now he's on MSNBC saying he's just misunderstood. :smiley_wi

Yah, the Winter O's probably all-around aren't as interesting as the summers unless your a big fan of the sports and both Olympics aren't as incredible to watch as when they were played out in the midst of the Cold War (granted, I wasn't born in time to see Dan Gable and the '80 Miracle on Ice, but still...).

Part of the problem is our under achieveing team. For all the hype by NBC that we would have the best team ever, what a dissapointment they are. All our Gold Medal favorites are choking.

I took the quotes into account.
Before 2 weeks ago, I had not even heard of the guy but he is supposed to be the best for the last couple of years? Then he comes in shooting his mouth off about other athelete's like he's anywhere near a HOUSEHOLD NAME.

Have to agree w/Jstate on this one. Had never heard of Bode Miller before a couple of weeks ago & when he goes away in a couple of weeks I will definetely not miss him.

Most of us grew up when the olympics were AMATURE sports! When a team was put together and worked for a few years in preperation. Now it is an "allstar" weekfor all the countries. Asking someone if they watched the olympics is like asking if the watched the pro-bowl. Some people watch for pride, I just can't watch. There is a reason college athletics have a bigger audience than professional. I think it has finally carried over into the olympics as well. :boring: :boring:

I think we are also missing the traditional (now gone what 15 years?) Russia or any Eastern Europe communist ruled country vs. USA rivalry. Who can ever forget the Miracle on Ice? What people may not remember is it was played in the afternoon and ABC, or whoever, was running it on tape that night. All before the game on news radio they would tell you to turn off your radio for a few minutes if you didn't want to know the score - imagine NOT knowing it beforehand today even if you didn't want to with all the media portals!!!

One news cast I watched recently did the usual "hit the mute button" or "don't watch the screen" routine before giving the results. Then within five minutes the score goes across their ticker at the bottom of the screen! If I had avoided the results, then I would have been pissed!! I figured it was going to be near impossible to avoid the results until the telecast that night so I just watched.

since the fall of the Berlin Wall the only great entertainment was the Jamaican Bobsled team and that English guy who was a terrible ski jumper (Was that Bernie the Eagle?)

If you didn't know who Bode Miller was, you must never pay attention to anything outside of football and maybe basketball. I can forgive not knowing of the speedskaters like Parra and snowboarders like Shaun White. Anyone who isn't under 30 isn't likely to know of White, but considering I'm the same age as White and I've watched at least some of the X-Games for the last six or seven years, it's hard not to know the Flying Tomato.
Miller is going to get a gold...you watch. He didn't win the skiing World Cup last season for nothing.

But not a big fan of Figure Skating. It's like a long commercial between the other events.

I may be the only one on this board that actually likes figure skating. My sister was a competitive skater when she was younger, so I can appreciate how difficult and amazing it is what these athletes do. I'm rooting for Johnny Weir who is Delaware resident and trains at UD. He is currently second going into tonight's long program.

I am not saying its not difficult, but just doesn't entertain me. However, Weir wearing a CCCP jacket during warmups was rather funny.

Figure skating can be interesting, but it should DEFINITELY be a womens-only sport. Personally, I'd be proud to live in a country which refuses to enter "men" into the competition.
...oh, and by CCCP you mean USSR, right? What a little piece of s--t.

I don't know what the meaning behind it is, but if he gets the silver behind Pleshinko(sp?) then thats an accomplishment

I love the Winter Olympics much more than the summer. I am practically glued to NBC and I love watching every event except figure skating and speed skating. Only figure skating I can tolerate is the women's short program. The only real interest I took in it was Nancy Kerrigan - Tanya Harding in '94. I guess that's because S.I. for Kids made a big deal about it. That clip of Nancy moaning 'why?' gets me chuckling every time... sorry for being immature.. There is story of her being unsportsmanlike during the games but I forget what it is right now.

I've caught myself watching women's curling twice this week (the Johnson sisters are hot!). That is about my only Olympics watching experience, though.

Dude...................The MAJORITY of people outside the world of SKING had never heard of this guy UNTIL HE OPENED HIS MOUTH ABOUT Bonds, McGuire, and a few BASKETBALL players.
Hell, the only skier I can call by name from the last Olympic's or anywhere else is PEAK-A-BOO Street?....................and that's only because I was like......................WHAT THE HELL WAS HER PARENT'S THINKING WHEN THEY NAMED HER THAT?xlolx
