Even after four seasons of mediocricy the Texans have bought David Carr for three more years. Looks as though it will be Bush, not Young, going #1.
Texans exercise 'buy back' to keep Carr through '08
By Len Pasquarelli
HONOLULU -- In a move that could augur the selection of Southern California tailback Reggie Bush as the first overall pick in the 2006 draft, league sources here for the Pro Bowl confirmed late Thursday that the Houston Texans have exercised a "buy back" clause in quarterback David Carr's contract, paying him an $8 million bonus to secure his services for three more seasons.
The Texans announced the extension Friday in a news release.

Even the best QB in the league could not succeed with all the holes around Carr. That much is certain. I think Carr has the tools to succeed. Granted he's not a good leader, but was Troy Aikman? Aikman had guys around him who were. The Texans need to get some guys to fill some holes on offense who are willing to take the 'leader's cap' from Carr.
I think with Kubiak at the helm, a real QB coach instead of Greg Roman, they'll be fine. Add Mike Sherman, who seems to be close to commiting as another offensive mind that will be around and another play-maker in Reggie Bush to go with Andre Johnson, then things will happen...

Mike Sherman? He is looking to be an assistant?

My complaint about Carr is not his numbers but his swagger or lack thereof. He does not seem to have the "it" factor that the big time QBs have. Even when Manning or Favre have off days they still beam with confidence. Carr lacks this.

Mike Sherman is going to be the assistant head coach and offensive line coach, allegedly. He has nothing to lose with this job because of how low the Texans are and they can improve tremendously...
