Southern got their practice jerseys! Congrats to the Jags - apparently this is not something they've had regularly in the past, possibly due to finances?

Finances have not gotten any better - guessing SU cut somewhere else - whether traveling less kids or something of that nature...


When players reported to the locker room for their first practice of the week, they were greeted with something new: practice jerseys.

Yes, practice jerseys. One hundred gleaming blue jerseys for offensive players, 100 whites for defensive players, and 19 red jerseys for quarterbacks and kickers.

Longtime equipment manager Derek Price ordered them during the offseason, hoping to have them in time for preseason camp — but a series of delays kept the new jerseys out of Price’s hands until last week.

“When coach (Stump) Mitchell got here, one of the first questions I asked him was, ‘Do you mind if I order practice jerseys?’” Price recalled. “His response was something like: ‘You’re telling me we don’t have practice jerseys?’ ”

For two decades, the Jaguars did not.

Pete did post winning seasons the last three years before being cut loose while having tons of sucess prior. Wonder what Stump is cutting back on in light of the practice jerseys. His team is 1-3 in SWAC play and 2-4 overall. Does not bode well...

Yes, Pete did not want them... but you could easily assume that finances - Pete wanted to spend money elsewhere - could have very well been a factor.

But Southern's budget is smaller and having practice jerseys are an added expense. So - where did the extra $$$ come from? Stump's recruiting budget? Did it require the basketball team to play another guarantee game?

Does SU Foundation money go back into athletics? Or is the money that Stump is raising not do any good for his program?

1) Why did Pete not have practice jerseys?
2) When the budgets are getting cut in Louisiana (see the thread we've discussed in the past), how is that Southern is now getting an added accessory that was not needed before?
