Pitchers and catchers report on the 17th, only nine days away. Spring training games begin the first week in March which has become my favorite month of the year down here!

Good point about college BB, but there is something about MLB Spring Training that gives you the first feeling of Spring and Summer. Let's Go Mets!!

So what? The NCAA Tournament is coming, preceded by Championship Week, and followed by the Stanley Cup playoffs... now that, thank God, for returning! I don't start paying attention to the Red Sox until the Devils finish their Cup run in June.

They will still find someway to finish fourth and 10 games under .500.

How many saves will Billy Wagner blow this year? If he pitched against the Astros every day, he'd save d*ck.

yeah, ARod threw out the first pitch at the 1st NC State game, and then less than a week later was wearing a Duke shirt at their basketball game, explain that one

I know why he was at the State game, but not the Duke

Oh that's simple... A-rod is the biggest sell-out in pro sports. He'd probably support Hamas' electoral platfrom if they gave him enough money to do it.

Plain and simple, $220 million is NOT WORTH IT!!

I'd rather take an all-star player of a mega-star, and surround the all-star with young, talented guys, and some veterans. Divide and distribute that $220 million.

I guess Texas paid the price.. their franchise is a mess save for Mark Texiera and Hank Blalock, and they have no pitching, save for Chris Young... the ex-Princeton bball all-star... Ivytalk will remember who that is I'm sure..

How can you win with Chan Ho-Park as your #1???

Young is sporadic at best, he has great size, just no control

Looks like my Phils have done enough to tease us again this year. Competitive, but not enough to take it all. I sense one more shot at starting pitcher trade. They're light on back up outfielders, with the Michaels trade, and overloaded with infielders--so I sense another move, or one of the infielders moves to outfield--maybe Tomas Perez. I'd say 88-74 finishing about 3-5 games behind the Braves, as usual.

I generally agree with this assessment, but I think Perez is a goner now that we have Alex Gonzalez. Gillick didn't do enough to get the Fightins over the hump, IMHO. And, with the washed-up Tom Gordon as a "closer," I'm predicting more like 84 wins. :bang:

Gordon isn't really even a closer

I agree. The Phillies pitching, both the starting rotation and the pen, looks very suspect right now.

Gordon went from closer, to set-up man, now back to closer. He is a huge question mark for the Phils.

he's no John Smoltz, don't think he can make the transition back and forth

Agreed. I think Gordon will be a big flop and the Phils will be scrambling to find someone to fill the closer role by mid-May
