Bemidji??? Wow. I was a geography major, but I had to look that one up. Near nothing, Minnesota huh xlolx? I can't imagine how cool it must be to go to hockey games on campus. I would love to be able to do that; no interest in the round ball.

The increase in television coverage the last few years has been great. Just scanning through my channel guide for this evening:

National Coverage:
CBS College: Maine at Michigan State
FCS Pacific: Boston College at Denver
FCS Central: Nebraska-Omaha at Minnesota
FCS Atlantic: Alabama-Huntsville at Wisconsin

Regional channels that I get:
MidCo Sports: Miami(OH) at St. Cloud State
The MN Channel: NoDak at Bemidji State

I'm guessing there are plenty more regional channels covering other games outside of my area. But having CBS College and the Fox College Sports channels have been great about picking up games and broadcasting them nationally.

The fact that I have 5 college hockey games that I can watch tonight is pretty dang impressive!!! And I'll be watching our women's team play at Minnesota online while flipping back and forth through all of these games.

I looked at some pictures of the campus on-line, pretty cool. I bet it's gorgeous up there right about now. I guess I'm one southerner that has some serious hockey envy. The thought of tailgaitng on campus in January..... awesome. It doesn't get cold down here until football is winding down; and all the best tailgaiting foods and beers are made for the cold weather.

I saw an amazing game last night in Durham, and UNH and Michigan skated to a 3-3 tie. Michigan had a goal lead three times and gave it up all three times...UNH put up 48 shots on goal and are averaging 5 goals a game so far...so it looks like our offense has picked up right where it left off! In contrast the team has also given up 5 goals a game as well...new goalie...still trying to get the hang of D1 college hockey. He will settle down once we get into the routine that comes with conference play. I cannot knock him down too much though as he has faced Miami(OH) and Michigan...not exactly easy competition!

That's good news, bulldog! When I was a junior or senior, Yale came to the old Watson Rink with precisely one win all year (over Army, I think) and damn near beat a nationally-ranked Harvard team. I remember that game: Yale was beating us 2-0 after 2 periods, but Harvard roared back in the third (after a pretty good tongue-lashing from Billy Cleary, I'm sure) to win it 3-2. Harvard scored twice in the last 2 minutes and potted the game-winner with a few seconds left. The Yale goalie was from New Mexico! Anyway, the Ivy hockey torch has obviously been passed.xbawlingxxsmhx

Yale had some woeful hockey teams back in the day. I remember they fired their hockey coach during the year, it could have been the year you are talking about. The only time in my memory that Yale ever fired a coach while the season was still in progress.

Tim Taylor turned things around, but could never quite get into the top echelon.

The Sioux are in first place in the WCHA finishing December 5-0-0 the last time that happened was Dean Blais' last year at UND in 2003. UND who has been known to start slow and finish hot are starting hot and will hope to continue the momentum in 2011 with home series' against Robert Morris, Minnesota, and Nebraska-Omaha. The Sioux have a 2 point lead in the WCHA over Denver and Minnesota-Duluth; Omaha is in 4th place just 3 points back of the Sioux. UND is 14-5-2 overall and 11-3-0 in the WCHA. As I wrote in another thread, I happened accross that game during the second period while channel surfing. I don't really like watching hockey but found myself watching that game because of the atmosphere and the intensity. That crowd was really loud and the teams acted like they REALLY don't like each other. There's was a lot of "want to win" on that ice and in that building. If only most FCS football games had that kind of atmosphere!

The Sioux-Gophers series is one of the most hated rivalry in all of college hockey. The series goes back to January of 1948 so you figure 63 years of hatred of the big school (Minnesota) and the little guy (UND). Minnesota leads the series but UND has more national titles then them. I miss the throwing of the dead gopher before the start of the game. They kick you out if you do that now. Game two 7pm Central time tonight.

MOST OPULENT: North Dakota
At Ralph Engelstad Arena, the air is sweet with the smell of roasting Bavarian almonds. The floors are marble, chandeliers dangle from the ceilings, mirrors are framed in gold and fireworks go off whenever the Sioux score. Every seat—even in the student section—is extra wide with armrests and cushioning. It's the luxurious experience you'd expect from the late Mr. Engelstad, a former UND player who owned casinos and clearly had a taste for the finer things. Suiteholders have tricked out their boxes with leather couches, pinball machines and vintage jukeboxes. The coaches' locker room has a sauna. Since the arena opened in 2001 there have been a dozen wedding receptions a year held in the lobby.

The best!!!!!

The run ended this afternoon. Colgate drops a tough one to Yale 4-0. Game was closer than the score, it was 1-0 after 2 periods and 2-0 until late in the 3rd. Still, a loss is a loss, and the Raiders lose in the ECAC semis again

UNH blows to Division 2 Merrimack College...

Should make the NCAA's next weekend...

As a side note, the Merrimack fans could not be any more distasteful then they were tonight...not that I would expect much from a cheap Catholic college in northern MA...really never thought I would say this. but I hope BC slaughters them tomorrow night.

Raiders fall behind and lose 5-3 to Dartmouth in the Consolation game

Colgate finishes its season at 11-28-3, yet we can claim to finish in 4th, just like our preseason prediction

4 seniors leaving, and though some were key contributors, hopefully the playoff run is something the team can build on heading into 2011-12. Of course, we hoped that after 2008, so we shall see

Rumors of next year's schedule include a trip to the Maverick Stampede, plus games with Miami and Colorado College, so hopefully a stronger OOC will set up a good ECAC season

Congrats to Yale for a tremendous season. I am sure they will be able to sleep well since they are playing essentially a home game next weekend!

The ONLY good thing to come from UNH losing to Merrimack, is that we have essentially fallen to a 4 seed and BC will NOT be coming to Manchester next weekend for the regional! They are going to have to travel!!!!

Looks like Merrimack may be coming to NH though, if they can both win their first round games we could have a rematch with the winner going to the Frozen Four!

I can only hope...xrolleyesx

Congrats to Colgate for the playoff run. And thanks for relating the whole season. That last few weeks really transformed your understandable sentiments about a luckless dreary regular season. I was following the scores elsewhere but reading your posts has personalized the improbable. The play on the ice from December to March has to have shifted incredibly. I t really forces me to reconsider what is possible in a team sport in one season. I hope the team is left with that sense of accomplishment and power.

Being without varsity ice hockey at Bucknell(not even club these days, that I can find), I have always tracked the UConn Huskies ever-so-slightly-neglected teams on ice: their successful, occasionally ranked women's ice hockey program in Hockey East, and the Husky male skating ensemble, a perpetual cellar dweller in that cellar of Division I hockey, the Atlantic Hockey Association. This year UConn played their way into a bye for the first round of the playoffs as 2nd in the East (to Holy Cross), but finishing in conference barely at .500. They finished off Mercyhurst in the quarters, and finally fell to RIT one game shy of the final. No whisper of a shot for a regional slot without that AHA title, it still made those few final weekends interesting as they swatted it out with their three in-conferences enemies, Bentley, AIC, and Sacred Heart, the very dregs of the Division I RPI chart. They did not choke, took the bye, made short work of Mercyhurst before succombing to another non-scholarship team that made the Frozen Four last year, RIT's Tigers. Those ECAC teams seem more storied, but UConn's other winter male team sport did alright.

Yale awarded #1 seed

http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2011/03/20/sports/doc4d862dadef214453661964.txt

NEW HAVEN — Yale received the No. 1 overall seed from the NCAA men's hockey selection committee on Sunday, and will play Air Force in the opening game of the East Regional at Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs (27-6-1), which won the ECAC Hockey championship with a 6-0 win over Cornell Saturday night, are making their third straight NCAA appearance. They suffered their first loss of the season at Air Force (20-11-6) on Nov. 14.

Union (26-9-4), which edged Yale for the ECAC regular season title, is the No. 2 seed in Bridgeport and will play third-seed Minnesota-Duluth (22-10-6) on Friday at 3 p.m.

The East Regional final is Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Bridgeport, with the winner advancing to the Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn.

UNH is the #4 seed in the Northeast Regional and will play #1 seed Miami (OH) on Saturday afternoon...then Merrimack (#2 seed) will play #3 seed Notre Dame in the night cap...

Good for Merrimack with getting a game so close to their campus...I hope their alumni/fans/family can all make it up since they are truly the only team from HE in that regional with any shot in hell to make it out of Manchester and on to St. Paul.

Question is how much does UNH lose by? 3 or 4 goals?

You never know. If there is one sport that it is hard to predict, it's hockey. If their goaltender gets hot, any of these 16 teams can win.

I just hope Yale's goalie stays as hot as he has been the last two weeks.

Strange game. 1st and 2nd period BC had no answer for CC's top line, just firing on goal all night. CC's goalie made some huge saves as well, BC hit a few posts, and just ran out of time. Score isn't completely reflective of the way the game went, but Muse had a bad night, which really cost the Eagles
