Thomas Grant, a beat writer for the MEAC’s South Carolina State whom I respect a lot, bemoans the state of the league in a new blog – taking a shot at the “non-serious” SWAC along the way. The MEAC, as Grant notes, is the only FCS conference with three winless teams through the first month [...]http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/TheDerisoReport/~4/sCM_HsFnggM

Nick -

Would the $3M really help the schools in the SWAC and MEAC?

The SWAC namely is already at the bottom of the barrel financially and even with the payouts from hoops guarantees and taking games off campus to play in 'Classic' situations, their schools are still hurting. You mention cutting corners - the SWAC is the prime example of this, particularly in the non-revenue/Title IX sports.

I am not sure that the administration(s) are in place in the SWAC and at most of the member institutions to properly use any additional money they would get. Many have been grossly overspending for years on positions and sports, further crippling their ability to compete in their conference in some cases, but more importantly - in the region or nationally.
