File this under the 'Say what?!?!?' category:
From mywesttexas.com (http://www.mywesttexas.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=16051619&BRD=2288&PAG=461&dept_id=475011&rfi=6).
It talks about some I-A signings and then goes into this beauty about half way down:
The Lee seniors were also able to use the advice of their former teammates in making their decision. McCoy, who said he's been looking forward to Wednesday since he watched Jaime sign his letter of intent a year ago, has received positive reports from his brother about A&M and the football program.
"They take care of you down there," McCoy said. "I know from my brother they keep your pockets full, give you plenty of money, keep feeding you meals. Besides that all the help they give you with football. They keep you on your grades with private tutoring. Just good all-around."

I don't think they are getting their money's worth. (either that or USC and U of Texas pay much better).

I think it's the latter of those 2. How else would Vince Young be driving a brand new BMW when his momma still lives in the poorest section of Houston??

Student loans. I think someone like VY, who knew he'd be going pro , wouldn't have a problem borrowing money while in school. Just a guess though.

It might be a loan (or a lease) but student loans - no. Can't get a student loan if the cost of school is paid for already. Banks check with schools.

It's the same thing as a high school classmate who signed with _SU out of high school only to find $10,000 in cash on his doorstep on his way to school the very next morning (I guess somebody found it in the street and maybe thought it belonged to his home and nicely left it on the doorstep without ringing the doorbell).
It's the same thing as a high school classmate arriving at the airport on a recruiting visit in ****,TX only to have a media guide handed to him with $50 between each page while his host told him to get very familiar with it.
I could go on and on but what will it solve?

Is this a new rule?
When I was in grad school, I had a full tuition stipend, yet I got a $7K+ loan. Bought a $7K truck with it.

tuition is less than the cost of school. The cost of education as it is called includes tuition, fees, room, board, books, personal expenses, etc. It is set by the school. My guess is you had tuition paid for and got a loan based on everything else...

The latest from Aggieland...
Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione issued a statement Friday in an attempt to clear up McCoy's comments.
"We follow NCAA rules here at Texas A&M," Franchione said. "I believe Terrence did not explain himself well. We will do all that we can, within the rules of the NCAA, to help our players be successful on the field, in the classrooms and in life."
An A&M official said McCoy was referring to the $30 per day schools are allowed to provide players hosting prospects for entertainment purposes on official visits. Franchione also said on his Web site that players can receive meal stipends under certain conditions.
