With all of the talk of expansion and schools being realigned and left out of conferences, what is the history of Independents in FCS football? I know SUU was Independent from their move-up to D1 until the Great West was formed. If we don't get invited to the Big Sky I would assume that would be something we would have to look at (it seems to be in the water in Utah).

SUU has reached out to the SLC for affiliate membership... the league has rules that would prohibit that. We'll see how expansion shakes out for the SLC and if there are any schools that drop to Div II or Div III.
The only true independent in FCS right now is Savannah State. The others are upstarts about to find a home or Div II moving up. SSU is actually on its way to the MEAC, but has been an independent for awhile.
