If the Dukes continue to play well and happen to host a playoff game, Bridgeforth Stadium will be unavailable because of construction. Would this factor in when and if they are seeded?xconfusedx

JMU is negotiating to rent Richmond's old stadium, City Stadium. The place is kind of a dump, but it holds 22k. The Richmond area is also the home of JMU's second largest alumni base behind DC.

How about Scott Stadium in Cville?Allow seating in lower sections only, plenty of parking and only a 45-50 min drive, and UVA will be finished with home games.

ooo ooo ooo, I'd avoid that at all costs. I went to the Richmond App playoff game there last year and calling it a dump might be a little generous, place is horrid. Had a great time in Richmond though.

Could Richmond share their new stadium?

1) I don't think Richmond would be willing to rent it to us.
2) I'm pretty sure it only seats around 8500.

Seats 8,700 -- I'm sure if JMU asked UR would be willing to make the new stadium available under the circumstances. We've worked with VCU in hoops so sure JMU in football would not be an issue. The issue would likely be the City of Richmond. In order to get our stadium on campus not only did we have to agree to the size limitations we also had to list shat games would be allowed in the stadium. I'm sure a JMU playoff game would not be included and would require an amendment to the CUP.

I've been to some games there, granted, at least 8 or 9 years ago, but I didn't think it was so bad. It seats a lot of people has good site lines, and I think we even managed to tailgate some before the games.

Anoher option: VMI Alumni Memorial Field: seats 10,000, recently renovated, and a lot closer to JMU's campus than Richmond.

What about putting temporary stands around the field hockey field and playing on the astro-turf? It's got lights and is right on campus.

If JMU were to go the local route, the football stadium at the new Harrisonburg High School would probably be a better option if temporary end zone seating were added.

That said, I don't think playing in a high school stadium would help with the public perception that FCS schools play in "high school stadiums".

Keep in mind that JMU's regional alumni base in concentrated in the DC, Richmond, and Norfolk areas in that order. While VMI may be closer to JMU than Richmond is, it is still an hour plus trip for students. Any game away from campus will see some drop in student attendance, especially during exam season, but I wouldn't expect a big difference in student attendance between a one-hour trip and two-hour trip. Plus most students at least know a friend who's parents live in the Richmond area, so it gives them a place to crash. No one lives in Lexington.

Driving times....

JMU-Lexington - 1:03
DC-Lexington - 3:13
Richmond-Lexington - 2:30
Norfolk-Lexinton - 4:01

JMU-Richmond - 2:20
DC-Richmond - 2:06
Richmond-Richmond - 0:00
Norfolk-Richmond - 1:46

Driving times to JMU for reference...

DC-JMU - 2:16
Richmond-JMU - 2:20
Norfolk-JMU - 3:53

Richmond is just more convenient for our fans.

Friday night lights style, rent a local open lot, paint lines and put up goal posts. Host football game, SRO.

I read the first page and was going to write nearly the same post. Thanks for saving me the time!

I loved when JMU played at VMI a few years ago. Great location but not for our fans to get to right after Turkey dinner back at home...

I've got a great idea - just have the team relax and take it easy this Saturday, and y'all won't have to worry about it come November.
