Alabama A&M is going to eliminate several sports. I didn't think mens' soccer was that big to begin with. Does the SWAC even have participation? Tennis is going down as well as baseball at the school.

Athletics director says eliminating sports could save school $500,000

Alabama A&M University officials are considering eliminating four sports, including the men's soccer program that won a pair of NCAA Division II championships.

Baseball, men's tennis and women's tennis also would be cut, according to A&M athletics director Jim Martin. All four of the sports would be eliminated before the 2006-07 school year.

Is this a growing issue in D-II? Truman State, a D-II in the MIAA, is said to be looking at cutting its' athletic program. Million dollar cuts are mentioned as well as a drop to D-III. :(

Slippery Rock just cut 8 sports. I know of two schools in NDSU's (North Dakota State's) old conference that cut sports and limited roster sizes within the last couple of years. However, I think those two schools' finances have improved. OTOH, I think things have deteriorated at some of the conference's other schools. At least two schools are talking about moving up to DI.

I don't think it's much of a trend. If it were, DII would be voting to cut schollies for football again. Instead, they are talking about emulating DI and splitting into two classifications for football.
