Ivy Players of the Week

News came from the league office when it announced its first Players of the Week. Tiger junior kicker Patrick Jacob, who made his collegiate debut over the weekend, took the special teams honor after making five of six field goal attempts, including one from 43 yards. Both the five field goals and the 43-yarder were unmatched at Princeton since the third game of the 2005 season, when Derek Javarone kicked five, including one from 43, in a 43-3 win over the Lions.

Offensive standouts Trey Peacock (eight catches, 196 yards, one touchdown) and Tommy Wornham (392 passing yards, one touchdown) were both named to the Ivy League Honor Roll.

All concerned would have much rather had the Win against Lehigh.

Jacob has a hell of a leg. He may be best PK the Tigers have had since Chris Lutz or Scott Morrison.

Offensive and defensive players of the week:

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Dartmouth junior running back Nick Schwieger (Norton, Mass.) posted the sixth-most rushing yards ever for a Dartmouth player with 216 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns in the Big Green's 43-20 win over at Bucknell. Schwieger topped the 200-yard mark for the second time in his career -- just the second player to do it twice in school history. After racking up 90 yards in the first half, his 126 in the second stanza helped Dartmouth overcome a 20-9 halftime deficit. His first touchdown came on a 56-yard run that gave the Big Green the lead it would never give back at 23-20 late in the third quarter. He then tacked on an 11-yard burst up the middle for his other touchdown in the fourth quarter. Schwieger's 273 all-purpose yards are the third most by a Dartmouth player and half of his 30 touches went for first downs.

Yale junior quarterback Patrick Witt (Atlanta, Ga.) became just the sixth Bulldog signal caller to throw for 400 yards in a game when he connected on 35-of-55 passes for 407 and two touchdowns in a 40-35 win over Georgetown. Witt, who dove into the end zone from a yard out on the game's final play, hit seven different receivers while becoming the first Bulldog thrower to top 400 yards since Alvin Cowan in 2004. Witt's game-winning score capped a 10-play, 64-yard drive over the last 1:27 to give Yale the comeback victory. He went 4-for-6 with 46 yards on that final drive.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Penn senior defensive back Jon Saelinger (Cincinnati, Ohio) nearly matched a 70-year-old school record, finishing with three interceptions - one shy of Jack Welsh's mark set in 1940. Saelinger was the key for a defense that did not allow a single point, held Lafayette to just three first downs through the first three quarters and allowed just 19 yards rushing and 168 total yards of offense. In what turned out to be a five-point game, his first interception was huge as it came in the end zone and kept Lafayette off the scoreboard in the second quarter. His second interception came on the first play after Penn closed the gap to 14-13, giving the Quakers the ball back in Lafayette territory. Then his third pick came at the beginning of the fourth. With Penn still trailing, it set up the game-winning touchdown. He also added two tackles.
