James Conley felt like the kid who raises his hand in class, but doesn’t get the chance to answer the question.
Conley knew what he could do on the football field. He had been a reserve defensive back and linebacker at Northern Iowa for two seasons. When the Panthers played North Dakota State to begin the 2010 season, Conley got his first start as a college player.
Playing as an outside linebacker in what amounted to a 3-4 defense, Conley contributed to UNI’s 16-9 victory over the Bison.
The junior from Des Moines Roosevelt made eight tackles, second on the team behind L.J. Fort. He had 2 1/2 sacks and four stops for loss.
It’s only one game and one start, but Conley put his hand in the air, and answered the first question.
