When the Montana Grizzlies face Eastern Washington Saturday in Cheney, Wash., two of the best running backs in the Football Championship Subdivision ranks will be on the new red turf.
And while UM coach Robin Pflugrad wouldn’t trade his own Chase Reynolds for any other running back, he’s also candid when it comes to evaluating pure talent.
“Right now, Taiwan Jones is head and shoulders above anybody at our level,” said Pflugrad, referring to EWU’s speedy 6-1, 200-pound junior. “Every time he touches the ball he’s a threat to do it all. You look at the hit chart and they’re nobody else like him, a guy who can make long-distance runs and swing passes from anywhere on the field.”
Jones currently leads the nation in all-purpose yardage (278.5 yards per game), is 10th in rushing (117 ypg) and fourth in scoring (12 ppg). He is averaging an astounding 9 yards per carry.
