Samford - This team is far better than last year, and the Dogs' defense is special.
App State - NO problem
The Citadel - Must beat the Blue Hose or face the likelihood of a terrible year.
USC - The Ole Ball Coach seems to have a good team in Columbia.
Richmond - Hopefully I'm wrong, but the Phoenix better be up for this one.
Gardner-Webb - Western seems to be in deep trouble. Hope the Cats bounce back!
Wofford - NO problem.
GSU - Swagger is BACK, and that defense looks awesome.

Eastern Kentucky @ Chattanooga - Chattanooga gets their first win and certainly not their last
Presbyterian @ The Citadel - El Cid gets their next to last win of the season..
Furman @ South Carolina - If we keep it under 35 I will be a happy camper.
Elon @ Richmond - I may miss it a mile, but I am going with Elon
Western Carolina @ Gardner-Webb - Hoping for a rebound, but if they aren't WCU should be demoralized. GWU by more than a few
Union @ Wofford - Woof wins big
Georgia Southern @ Coastal Carolina - Apologies to any GSU fans I may have insulted last week. I am now officially concerned. GSU by 10 or more.

Furman @ South Carolina (Game of the Week) - Furman will rep the SoCon well, but Spurrier will ensure USC will not suffer the same fate as Ole Miss and Va Tech.
Eastern Kentucky @ Chattanooga - One of these teams will walk away with their first win, I like the home team.
Presbyterian @ The Citadel - This is a game that could go either way.
Elon @ Richmond - Elon gets a win on the road against good CAA team.
Western Carolina @ Gardner-Webb - Momentum is on G-W's side after shocking Akron.
Georgia Southern @ Coastal Carolina - GSU gets a win on the road.

I like your optimism.
USC has a good team. I think Furman is talented enough to hang around. In the end, I fear, USC is just going to be too big and strong and will wear our smaller defense down.

North Carolina Central @ Appalachian State- Mountainqueers roll again behind Pressly/Quick combo.
Eastern Kentucky @ Chattanooga- Mocs in a close one.
Presbyterian @ The Citadel- xcoffeex scoreless tie?
Furman @ South Carolina- Cocks pull away in 2nd half as Men in Furple Tights wither at Williams Brice.
Elon @ Richmond- Spiders win in new stadium but Flaming Pigeons keep it close
Western Carolina @ Gardner-Webb- Western's woes continue
Union @ Wofford- Terriers better get their act straight before we start conference play. Not encouraged by what I've seen so far. We win ugly again.
Georgia Southern @ Coastal Carolina - Eaglets TO too strong for Coastal Correctional.

Newberry (1-1) at Samford (1-1, 0-0)
Samford returns home to Birmingham welcoming Newberry. The Wolves come in having lost to D2 power Valdosta St. 45-17 allowing the Blazers to evenly attack the defense. Samford comes into Saturday’s contest having defeated Northwestern St. 19-7. The Bulldogs were led by quarterback Dustin Taliaferro, who tossed for 180 yards & a TD, and by a secondary that had three interceptions. Look for the Samford offense to continue to amass yardage as they take care of the Wolves in the Bulldogs home opener. Samford 45 Newberry 7
North Carolina Central (1-1) Center at App St. 2-0, 1-0)
The Eagles of NC Central go into Kidd Brewer having lost to Winston-Salem 34-27. In the loss, the Eagles managed a 50% conversion rate on 4th down, and had a balanced attack that netted 365 total yards. The Mountaineers took care of business defeating Jacksonville 45-14. In the victory, DeAndre Presley lit up the Dolphin secondary for 285 yards and 4 TD’s, while the defense forced 9 punts & kept the Dolphins under 100 rushing yards. If the Eagles are to win, they mustn’t allow the Mountaineer offense to get into any type of rhythm. But such as it is, I believe the Mountaineers will be too much for NC Central to handle. App St 54 NC Central 3
Eastern Kentucky (0-2) at Chattanooga (0-2, 0-1)
While it looked as though the Mocs were going to spoil the debut of the recently renovated Paul Snow Stadium, fate yet again snatched victory from them. UTC’s turnover on downs late in the fourth proved to be the deciding event that allowed Jacksonville St the ability to score with a minute left. Eastern Kentucky (whose mascot looks like Col. Sanders) comes into the contest having lost to Louisville 23-13. In the loss, the Colonels only managed 91 passing yards compared to 315 the prior week. Seeing as both teams haven’t won, I imagine a good game will be played. If the Moc’s can play an entire 60 minutes, look for them to finally get the victory. UTC 21 EKU 14
Presbyterian (0-2) at The Citadel (1-1, 0-0)
The Bulldogs returns home after a lopsided loss to Arizona 52-6 last week, where the Bulldogs only managed to produce 171 total offensive yards. In the contest with the Wildcats, nothing seemed to go the Citadels way as they coughed up the ball 6 times losing 3, and only managed a 37% 3rd down conversion rate. The Blue Hose come in having lost to Clemson 58-21. In the loss, Brandon Miley threw for 61 yards and a TD while Myron Gary rushed 53 yards on 7 attempts. Look for this game to a close one until the end. I can’t foresee either team putting up big offensive numbers, but I look for the Bulldogs to improve to 2-1. The Citadel 35 Presbyterian 14
Furman (1-0, 0-0) at South Carolina (2-0)
After beating Colgate 45-15, Furman heads to the South Carolina capital for a date with the University of South Carolina. In their defeat of Colgate, the Paladins produced over 500 yards, 377 of that rushing thanks to Chris Forcier & Tersoo Uhaa. While the Paladin D only gave up 51 passing yards, they struggled up front allowing the Raiders to rush for 260 yards. If the Paladins are to beat the Old Ball Coach, they must play a perfect game. Not a near perfect game, but a perfect game because Steve Spurrier will not allow the Gamecocks to get beat like Va Tech, Ole Miss, or Kansas. But anything can happen in 60 minutes. However I believe the SEC is on notice about FCS clubs. South Carolina 45 Furman 21
Elon (1-1, 0-0) at Richmond (0-1)
Richmond opens their new stadium by welcoming Elon. The Spiders have only played one game, which was a loss to Virginia 34-13. The biggest highlight for Richmond was Kendall Gaskins 70 yard TD run in the 1st quarter. The Phoenix look to continue their winning ways having destroyed the transfer heavy Shaw Bears 55-26. In the win, Scott Riddle had his way with the Bear secondary tossing 244 yards and 3 TD’s. The Elon defense did their job causing 2 fumbles and netting 2 interceptions and forcing 5 punts. Look for Elon to spoil the debut of the Spiders new digs as Riddle throws for more than 200 yards for the third consecutive game. Elon 45 Richmond 35
Western Carolina (0-2, 0-0) at Gardner-Webb (2-0)
Having lost to D2 Tusculum 54-30, Western heads to Boiling Springs to play Big South’s Gardner Webb. The Runnin Bulldogs come in having beaten the Zips of Akron 38-37 on a late TD. Let’s face it, with the Catamounts beginning SoCon play after this game, don’t be surprised if the Catamounts finish the 2010 campaign without a win. Gardner Webb 45 WCU 21
Union (1-1) at Wofford (1-1, 0-0)
Wofford returns home after defeating Charleston Southern 34-23. The game was relatively close going into the half with the Terriers clinging to a 3 point lead, but saw them come out in the second half and put 24 on the board. As with a majority of the SoCon teams, Eric Brietenstein led the option attack with 97 rushing yards & 2 TD’s. While they produced good offensive numbers, the Terriers struggled to convert 3rd downs, finishing with a 10% conversion rate. Union comes in having destroyed Kentucky Christian 48-0, posting 390 total offensive yards on 43 plays. I can’t say I’m a fan of an established FCS program scheduling an NAIA team, but might be a good boost to confidence before starting SoCon play next week. Wofford 66 Union 10
Georgia Southern (1-1, 0-0) at Coastal Carolina (0-2)
After a tough fought loss to Navy, Georgia Southern looks to rebound against the Chanticleers of Costal Carolina. In their loss to Navy, it was the Eagle D that seemingly kept this game close holding the Midshipman under 200 total offensive yards and Heisman hopeful Ricky Dobbs under 50 rushing yards. During halftime, Eagles HC Jeff Monken delivered a spectacular speech that seemed to spark the anemic Eagle offense for an early third quarter score. Coastal Carolina comes in having lost to Towson 47-45 in the fifth overtime. In the loss, the Chanticleers were 50% on third downs, and evenly produced 363 total offensive yards. Look for the Eagles to come out firing on all cylinders while the Eagle D continues to make statements and keep the team in the game. While Coastal won’t be a cake walk, look for the Eagles to return to Paulson with the W. Georgia Southern 45 Costal Carolina 17.
