Playing a non-conference game against No. 13 Virginia Tech at Lane Stadium could be a treat for a lower division school like James Madison, or it could be a nightmare depending on how you look at it.
The Dukes get a nice paycheck to visit Blacksburg, and their players get to play in a big conference environment in front of 66,000 fans.
But those are about the only perks that come with playing a nationally ranked Football Bowl Subdivision team on its home field.
“It’s about like your neighbor calling you and telling you that you get to play golf with Tiger Woods, and you’re real excited about it. And then he tells you in the next sentence, ‘You’re going to play Tiger, you’re going to play for $1,000 a hole, and you don’t get any shots.’
