The Gamecocks, based in Jacksonville, Ala., and in the NCAA’s Championship Subdivision, delivered the first shock of the 2010 season when they upset Mississippi 49-48 in double overtime last week. They expect a record crowd of 24,000 at newly expanded Paul Snow Memorial Stadium on Saturday when they face Chattanooga (0-1) in their home opener.

The buzz on campus is a welcome change from a year ago when Jacksonville State was banned from the postseason because of poor classroom performance as measured by the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate. JSU went 8-3 and would have earned the automatic NCAA playoff berth awarded the Ohio Valley Conference champion.
