and verbals to Penn St...

a big get for JoePa... Devlin was one of the top rated QBs in the nation.

The Nittany Lions’ breakout season played a big role in convincing Downingtown East quarterback Pat Devlin into changing his verbal commitment from Miami (Fla.) to Penn State. Having two parents who are Penn State alums certainly doesn’t hurt either.

After taking an official recruiting visit to Happy Valley last weekend, Devlin gave Paterno his verbal commitment Monday evening. He can make it official Feb. 1, the first day high school players can sign a binding National Letter of Intent.

"I’m really attracted to the coaches at Penn State, and the recruiting classes that they’ve gotten in the last two years have been great," Devlin said.

Last summer, Devlin announced that he would be attending Miami in 2006. The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder went on to set the state record for career passing yards as a senior. He is currently the No. 2-rated overall recruit in talent-rich Pennsylvania by G&W Recruiting.

Apparently the Canes didn't help matters by firing the QB coach who Devlin really liked.
