I'm not sure if this was posted anywhere else on AGS, so forgive me if it was (I looked back six pages). TT posted an article about San Marcos Daily Review interview with WAC Commish Benson that discussed the stadium expansion. However, that thread (http://www.anygivensaturday.com/showthread.php?72923-WAC-Commish-Comments-on-FCS-Expansion) was primarily about the possible move to the WAC.

So...

Texas State had a press conference Wednesday to announce the decision to bowl in the North Endzone at the cost of $32 million in time for the 2012 season.

Some quotes from the article on bobcatfans (http://bobcatfans.com/archives/1866#more-1866) about it:

This phase will add 13,500 more seats and close off the stadium to Aquarena Springs Dr.

One welcomed addition will be a Texas State University Fan Shop that will be open year around rather than just on game days as well new visitor locker rooms.

Seating capacity after the renovation will be somewhere around 28,000 with future plans expanding seating to 35,000.

Cool, not quite sure why another $32M has to be spent now, you only average 15K a game and that was a one time thing last year. Why not expand to 20K and then again when demand warrants? I am a TXST alum too, so I can ask these questions.

They average 12.2k per the NCAA (http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2009/Internet/attendance/FCS_AVGATTENDANCE.pdf), good enough for No. 22 in the country...

Their enrollment is over 30,000 strong and they have more alumni than most every (if not every) football school in the conference. Yet, they rank second in the league in attendance (behind McNeese and may be third behind Lamar) and rank third in season ticket sales (behind the two aforementioned).

Some have opined on other boards that TXST is using the "Monroe Math" (in reference to ULM's reported attendance efforts during their transition in the mid-1990s) on their already low attendance. It's been awhile since I've watched a TXST game.

This move is simply to catch the WAC (or another FBS conference's eye) and assist their school with future scheduling, though I do not think they'll be as successful as UTSA due to their facility shortcomings in comparison to the Alamodome (see indoor and more seating for premiere opponents). TXST's FBS scheduling will be a lot like that of a Louisiana-Lafayette. Get 2-for-1 with schools like Oklahoma State from time to time, but most likely end up with MAC and if TXST is in the WAC - Sun Belt type opponents who are willing to give straight up home-and-home.
