The Big Red of Cornell ended Lehigh's four year streak of 25 straight dual meet wins today in Ithaca, 19-14. The Mountain Hawks battled valiantly without their two nationally ranked stars at 133 and 165, Santos and Letters, and still came close to pulling out a win. Lehigh lost both 133 and 165, where they would have been heavily favored, yet, Dave Nakasone the #3 149 pounder missed scoring a huge upset at 165, losing to Cornell's #13 ranked Anescavage, 6-5 on riding time. Matt Cassidy, Lehigh's #19 ranked 197 pounder lost a nailbiter to Cornell's #15 ranked Mazzurco, 3-2.
Lehigh still won four bouts: #3 ranked Cooperman wtf, 19-3 at 141; #19 ranked Ciassuli wd 8-2 at 149; #15 Frick at 174 wd 5-2 and, again, 197 pounder Weibel moved up to Hwt. to knock off Cornell's 240 pounder, 3-1.
HC Strobel said after the match that Letters may be back by next week's double dual at Harvard and Brown. Santos is likely out for two more weeks.

What is Lehigh's national team ranking as of now?

Lehigh was ranked between 10-12 going into this week, depending on the poll. Cornell will ranked similarly. I don't expect the ranking to move much as the match was fairly close, with several close bouts. One thing good about wrestling is polls mean absolutely nothing. Just get healthy in time for the conference tournament to qualify a good number for the nationals. Two good duals next week as Lehigh travels to New England to wrestle Harvard in late a.m. and Brown in afternoon on the way home.
