BYU leaving the Mountain West for Indy status in football and West Coast Conference in all others ... Hawaii is almost sure to follow with same status in football and WCC in all others, Utah State is rumored to leave for greener pastures (probably won't happen with BYU leaving) and along with losses of Boise State, Fresno State and Nevada, that would leave the following:

As of now:
Idaho
New Mexico State
Louisiana Tech
Utah State (rumored to leave)
Hawaii (sure to leave)

Now here's the question ... what school(s) - at any level - would want to make join the new WAC?

I'm sure the MWC will want a Utah presence, so I imagine they'll invite USU.

La Tech has a future elsewhere. NMSU could possibly survive in Conference USA or the Sun Belt.

San Jose is boned.

You forgot San Jose State... six schools.

The two most desperate to get into FBS, even if it has a negative impact on their program to jump into the WAC - TXST, UTSA.

The WAC died many years ago when ESPN stopped showing their games late night. There was nothing better than watching those 55-45, five hour marathons back in the day.

I don't see Hawaii ever getting a look at from the religious based WCC. It is more likely that they end up putting the rest of their sports in the Big West.

An interesting side note to the BYU saga is that the WCC basically has Seattle in their back pocket for WCC membership, putting them at 10 schools. But BYU would loom so large over the rest of the conference, which are like a supercharged A-10 of the West. The WCC may not be able to withstand BYU's presence, who would be getting tons of money from football that others are not a part of. Something to consider - BYU could be lords over the smaller schools of the WCC.

New Mexico State and San Jose State used to be a part of the Big West Conference, which currently hosts a bunch of Cal schools, including Cal Poly and UC Davis. They'd fit perfectly in an FCS conference with those four as the charter members.

Utah State is the perfect replacement for BYU in the MWC.

La Tech will probably go C-USA or Sun Belt. I'd guess C-USA.

It's Idaho who is completely hosed. They may need to either drop football, or go back to the Big Sky.

New Mexico State will not be a member of Sun Belt. They don't want to go that road again. I would rather see Louisiana Tech go to the Sun Belt just because of the old rivalry between LA Tech/WKU women's basketball. Those were some magical times at E.A. Diddle. The 90s and early 2000s were great! I guess the pastures were not as green as they thought.

As much sense travelwise it would make, LaTech will NEVER go back to the Sun Belt ... they view the SBC (and FCS for that matter) as beneath them. They're looking for the call from C-USA which they might never get.

I'm hearing that both sides of the fence are more willing to unite... though I am not sure what to make of that. Caught me off-guard when I heard it...

I'd say Sun Belt definitely would want Tech back, which would be big boost for the league in football and WBB. Just think IMO Techsters have too much ego on the table (i.e. illusions of grandeur) and have a negative view of the SBC.

Thanks for catching me on San Jose State in previous post ... totally forgot about them. If WAC does implode, where do they go? Seriously doubt you see them in Mountain West ... best bet (if they keep football) is to go FCS.
