The South Dakota State University football team holds the 10th-place ranking in the preseason Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll, which was released on Monday. The Jackrabbits, who also are ranked ninth in the preseason Sports Network/Fathead.com media poll, made their inaugural appearance in the FCS playoffs last season en route to an 8-4 overall record. Defending national champion Villanova (Pa.) received 22 of 28 first-place votes to attain the No. 1 ranking with 667 points. Montana was second with 632 points and two first-place votes, followed by Appalachian State (N.C.) with 622 points and four first-place votes. SDSU tallied 403 points for its 10th-place showing. Eleven conferences are represented in the poll. The Colonial Athletic Association leads the way with six teams, followed by the Big Sky with five ranked teams. The Missouri Valley Football Conference has three teams in the Top 25 Southern Illinois (fifth), SDSU (10th) and Northern Iowa (13th)
