My wife and I are going to the UAlbany vs. Maine game on Sept. 2. Do any of you Maine guys have suggestions for places to stay, eat and things to do. We figure to stay until Sat. or Sunday before heading home.

When we go to UMaine, we stay at the Sheraton Four Points in Bangor. 10-15 minutes away from Orono. It was under renovation the last time we stayed there (2 years ago) and it was nice, I only imagine it is even better now. It is connected to the airport by a bridge; however the planes didn't keep us up and it was kind of neat to see some of the large Russian Cargo planes that landed there.

Visited friends staying at the Black Bear inn in Orono and that seemed relatively nice as well, but crowded.

I've only made one trip to Orono, but when I did, I visited Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and drove back south via Belfast, Camden, Bath, Brunswick, Freeport and Portland before getting on the Interstates. Henfan from Delaware has made trips to Orono, if you PM him, I'm sure he'll give you some tips.

Take the Casco Bay Ferry (http://www.cascobaylines.com/) if you'd like to explore the islands off of Portland.

Plenty to do and see in Maine between Kittery and Orono.

Stay at the Black Bear Inn in Orono right off I-95, eat at The Governors just down the road from there and on the way to campus.

For fun, sking and snowmobiling is always good, especially cross-country skiing as it is flat there.

As far north as Maine is, I still don't think there's any skiing before Labor Day.

What do you enjoy doing? How far are you willing to travel? While their are certainly things worth doing in the GBA (Greater Bangor Area) including Old Town / Orono the more renown historic tourist venues are slightly further away. These include Bar Habor, MDI, Fort Knox and Mt. Katahdin to name a few.

I made a tee time at Penobscot Valley CC for Friday morning. After that, we're thinking some boat tour. I'm seriously considering the UNH CC game saturday afternoon. Maybe we can golf sat. morning in the Durham area. Any suggestions where to play around there?

If you're planning to go to the UNH game the City of Portsmouth is 20 minutes from Durham.
Many great resturants and shops. There is also Boat Tours available.
