A year ago, James Madison football coach Mickey Matthews wanted Quintrel Thomas. Thomas had been a standout defensive end at Western Branch High School and JMU offered him a full scholarship.
But after a senior year in which he was named third-team all-state, Thomas signed with one of JMU’s Atlantic 10 rivals, Northeastern. On Monday, however, Thomas said he wouldn’t be enrolling at Northeastern after all.
Instead, the Chesapeake native plans to play for the Dukes.
