DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 16, 2010) - It's one of the staples of training camp reports in the early days of practice that the defense is ahead of the offense.Does that go for Bethune-Cookman? Not really."There are days the defense has been solid and there are days the offense comes roaring back and is productive," said B-CU coach Brian Jenkins. "Hey, it's camp. There are going to be ups and downs."Following a well-attended fan event Sunday evening, the Wildcats began their second week of pre-season training Monday."Hard work as usual," Jenkins said. "It's a matter of tying up loose ends and improving as a team."In some cases, it's a matter of getting used to a new position. DJ Howard has shifted from a safety to a cornerback while Ben De La Cruz, who saw time at quarterback last season, has moved to the other side of the ball and is now a safety."It's working out fine," Jenkins said of the transitions. "Both kids are football players. They're going to give it their all and find a way to produce and make plays."B-CU opens its season September 4 against Edwards Waters College at Daytona Beach's Municipal Stadium.
