With all of these I-A guys leaving school early to go thru the NFL draft, it occurs to me to ask if anyone remembers a I-AA player doing this?

It's happened, but I think you'd have to go all the way back to...

...last year.

Furman routinely has players leaving early to go pro....... in something other than sports.

I remember Brian Westbrook talking about it, then he tore his ACL his Jr. season.

Joey Thomas (MSU) was going to do it until he hurt his knee his junior year.

After his jr year, Avion Black of Tn State was ruled ineligible due to grades and declared for the supplemental draft in 1999. He was chosen by the Giants in the 5th round.

Jamie Coleman, one of the starting cornerbacks for Appalachian State in 1995, lost his eligibility after his junior season and declared for the draft. He went unselected, but signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent. He was starting for the Vikings through training camp, but was released in the final cutdown after an arrest for alleged rape. Some goldigger was trying to set him up and charged were dropped shortly thereafter, but not soon enough to keep Coleman from ruining his career. He ended up playing in the AFL until he tore up his knee.
