Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's basketball team will host Davidson in a key Southern Conference South Division showdown at 2:00 p.m. as part of the four-game Historically Black Colleges and Universities Classic this Saturday at Timmons Arena.

The HBCU Classic, in its second year at Furman, tips off at 11:30 a.m. with the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs taking on the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action.

Since there have been lots of discussion on the football "Classics", I thought I would post. I am not familiar with the basketball version. I would imagine it is difficult to capture the "event" status of the football version.

Also, have not kept up with FU basketball in a while. But serious considering taking this one in. Any body familiar the basketball version of the "Classics"

I can't believe Furman beat Davidson, I thought DC would go undefeated again in the SoCon. Good win by your guys.

Thanks. I had forgot what it was like to beat Davidson in BBall. I think we had lost 16 straight games to them

Not to paint myself as the oldtimer again, but when I went to FU we were a basketball school  Not unusual to be rated in the top twenty and made at least one, maybe two trips to the sweet 16. Whew, those days are gone :o

Of course, it doesn't beat the 50-point thrashing the Mountaineers gave Montreat Saturday at the Holmes Center. [/sarcasm]

I have actually been to Montreat. Very pretty place. I would have never thought they actually had a basketball team though  :)

Obviously they don't have a really good one, since the Mountaineers, who couldn't hit the water of they fell out of a boat last week, scored over 100 on them.
