I've been going to Phillies games since I was about 5 year old. Last night, at the ripe old age of 58, I got my first foul ball in the top of the 8th inning off the bat of Met's catcher Thole on pitch from Durbin. Not a 'catch' as the ball sailed over the head of the gentleman two seats to my right, struck the brick wall behind us and riccocheted over in my direction. I was able to lean over my chair and back through the railing the grab it off the concrete before some lady almost stepped on my hand! I figure I've been to about 265 Phillies/professional games in my life and this is my first 'game piece' momento.:D

I envy you to no end good sir. Congrats! Doesn't matter how you get the ball. What matters is that you get it.

Here's my lament story:
At a Padres game a few years back, Barry Bonds was up at bat, one HR away from tying Hank Aaron. He hits a foul ball that's coming right to me...
Earlier in the game, I'd had a conversation with the guy next to me (Husband of a co-worker) about if a ball were coming our way, we should let it cross the railing before attempting to catch it so it wouldn't bounce down to the first level if we missed it (we were in the first row of the second deck).
...so the ball is literally coming right to me, all I have to do is hold up my hands, right in front of my chin, and wait for it to land in them. Didn't even have to stand up. This ball, I'm thinking, might be worth money, if Bonds hits HR # 755 in this at bat or game. Then, just as the ball is getting ready to cross the railing and land easily in my outstretched hands, an arm shoots in from my left, flails one-handedly at the ball, effectively swatting it away like a defensive back, and it falls to a lucky fan the level below us. I just turned to the guy with a look of utter disbelief. The same guy I'd had the conversation with about letting the ball come over the railing before trying to catch it. I railed on him for the rest of the game, and I still rail on him via his wife when I see her at work to this day. That ball was meant for me. :(

Very cool. I caught my first one off Tommy Helms in Fulton County stadium. I was about 9 I think. Got three more. The only one I remember the batter was Willie Stargell.
