Gardner-Webb at 5th? Is that really where many in the Big South project them to be? The Bearkats play them and I know we had an easy time with them two years ago. Hope it's that easy, but not sure what our squad entails...

Some coverage locally...think it is great to see the NEC and Big South schools AND media covering the fact that they'll have an AQ.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Four years later, it still stands as, not only the peak of success for Coastal Carolina's program, but for Big South football in general.

The Chanticleers finished the 2006 regular season 9-2, including a win over highly ranked Furman, to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs - the first and, to this point, the only Big South team to make the postseason tournament since the league started playing football in 2002.

"One team in that many years," Gardner-Webb coach Steve Patton said, thinking back over the conference's other what-could-have-beens.

Charleston Southern Buccaneers Picked 4th in Pre-Season Poll (Post & Courier - Charleston) (http://www.postandcourier.com/news/2010/jul/30/bucs-picked-4th-in-poll/)

The video that kicked off the Big South Conference football media day described Charleston Southern as a dark horse contender for the league's 2010 championship.

"Whatever the coaches and media perceive us to be, it is what it is," said CSU senior linebacker David Jackson. "We just want to go out and win games, and wherever we end up at the end of the season is where we deserve to be."

“There are two schools of thought, on one hand you don’t mind being underestimated because you hope you can sneak up on people, but on the other hand you would like to be able to enjoy some of the respect that you feel like you have earned over the years,” said (Head Coach, Jay) Mills. “As we’ve told our coaches and players for the past few years, though, we need to remember that it is where you finish, not necessarily where you start.”

I like being picked 4th. I think we deserve a little more respect, but I'll take 4th for the pre-season. Once again, we (CSU) will be the conference over-achievers. We will finish higher than 4th and there will be some picked ahead of us that will finish behind us.

Don't be surprised if we make a serious run at the championship. We HAVE to show we can win on the road. It is difficult and has been for us in the past. Mental and physical toughness is the key to winning on the road. 18 seniors can give us the leadership we need to get the job done.

For being picked second in the conference, stony brook should've had more than 2 preseason selections. With that said looking forward to the championship game in VA at the end of the year
